As long as I can remember, I've enjoyed writing. Whether it was creative or academic writing, I liked it. When all the other kids would plead for multiple choice and true/false tests, I was always the freak silently hoping for an essay exam.
As I got older and bumped into various personality and aptitude tests I kept receiving the same feedback. Writer. Author. Poet. Did I ever listen? No.
Then in graduate school I had a linguisticss professor tell me that I write gracefully. I thought it was the finest compliment I'd ever been paid. But I still wasn't listening.
I've reinvented myself a couple of different times along life's path, and I find myself at another one of those points where it seems to be time for a new reinvention. A month ago I was paid another compliment about my writing from an unsolicited source. Then last weekend a writer was thrown in my path with suggestions about how to start a writing career without job experience. All right, all right! I'm listening.
So here I am for practice, and to get myself into the habit of writing daily. Wish me luck, and send me honest feedback!
