After dying for 8 minutes after surgery at the VA Hospital,
I feel like I have been reborn, Life is a marvelous adventure. The wheelchair is a pain and there is much that I miss, but I have gained so much more from the experience, that i seldom complain or even think about it .
Life is very precious and I realize now how much time I wasted on all the wrong things that are illusory and, like sand slip easily through the fingers and are carried away with the wind.
There is no love without the love of the Spirit, which breathes life into us, creates the love and joy that sustains us, strengthens our resove to carry on even on the grayest of days, and promises that our home awaits with those we love.
Before finishing my doctorate in psychology, I had a career with Centers for Disease Control, US Public Health Service. I have been in private practice and worked with victims of pologomy, cults, abuse, marriage and family, families of addicts, and addicts themselves.
I studied for many years with a priest who had worked in Basil with the man himself, Carl Jung. I have a strong interest in all things of the far East, particularly those modalities that do not see sickness but the fine traits we all have but have not developed. We are of mind, body, and spirit, any one of which may bring the person out of balance.
Jung was a great proponent of dream work, of course, as well as hypnosis and the notion of transcendent Oneness, or transcendent psychology, of mind, body, spirit.
I did an internship with Irene Winter who gave me a solid footing in the rich works or both Freud and his daughter, Anna. Freud's genius rests in his notion that one need not have years of experience to be of benefit to those who are suffering. It was through Freud that the field of psychology was permitted to grow and now encompasses many therapies, each with its own value. Of course his real genius was the psychodynamic model which holds that the relationship between therapist and patient allows for a special intimacy or transference/counter transference, so the patient feels safe enough to allow thoughts to flow freely, relating past experiences results in insight and the patient gets well.
I have had a long relationship with universities as an adjunct professor, giving me great joy and satisfaction working with active and alert young and inquiring minds.
I love chess, and suduko, crossword puzzles, books, music, and kicking back watching the antics of others. My cat Otella is usually by my side. I love all animals, but cats have my heart.
I started to blog recently, it is difficult to keep up with the physical demands and seems to take hours to type a page. But it's definitely something that gets under the skin.
