Here's to food... and those who eat it!!

Welcome to my page everyone! 

My blog is dedicated to my favorite foodie...my mom.  She encouraged me to cook for our family from a very young age and since then I've been dedicated to learning everything I can about food.

I'm currently a Culinary Arts teacher for a Wisconsin high school, where I've had the priviledge to work with some extremely talented young people, and some extraordinary chefs and restauranteurs.  I'm always excited to meet my new students and look forward to helping them become big foods nerds like me.  Its a pleasure to coach them as they join the foodservice industry as knowledgable and skilled professionals.

I was born and raised in Michigan.  I studied culinary arts and foodservice management at a community college in my home town, Flint.  Then studied education at Ferris State U in Big Rapids. I've work for nearly 20 years in the food industry...corporate and privately owned operations.  I've done every kind of food job out there; even scooped ice cream as a teenager.

I've been all over the US since I was a then  and I never get bored checking out the local restaurants.  Now that I live so close the Chicago I've really enjoyed dining at some of the best places to eat in the country. I have diverse tastes in food and will try nearly everything.  I'm ususally the "critic" at the dinner table...full of comments on the food or ideas to make it even better.

I like visiting restaurant supply stores, cultery shops, or anywhere that has kitchen gadgets.  I'm always trying new recipes and perfecting old ones...I love to be in the kitchen "cheffin it up", as my students might say.  I'm also a food tv junkie and have seen nearly every episode of shows like Hell's Kitchen and Top Chef.
