yamanote on HubPages
I am a 36 year old British guy who lived in Japan and Russia for 15 years. Most of that time was in Tokyo, so I chose the historical Japanese word "Yamanote" as my profile name.
I am interested in all sorts of things, from real estate to yoga, and of course hanging out with my fellow Hubbers!
A bit more about Yamanote...
“Yamanote” is the traditional name for the area of Tokyo that sits west of the Imperial Palace. In Japanese it means "an elevated ground or plateau," a name that derives from the fact that the Yamanote region sits on the Musashino Plateau.
The modern Japanese word "yamanote kotoba" meaning "dialect of the Yamanote" takes its name from the region, and is the basis of modern Japanese.
One of Tokyo’s busiest train lines, the Yamanote Line, was named after the historical term, and I am proud to name my Hubpages profile after it too!
