During the wedding ceremony, Brother Joseph Johnson conducted the service which was held at the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Camden, New Jersey. Powerful words from the Bible were shared during the talk. Brother Johnson spoke about how Adam, was given his wife Eve, who was created from a rib taken from the man's side at Genesis 2:18-25. The speaker continued to explain that because the woman Eve was taken from her husband Adam, "She was not there for him to beat up because if he did, it would be like beating himself up. Give your wife what she deserves, proper respect." Brother Johnson, received laughter from the audience as he expressed how "I thought I had to solve my wife's problems when she came to me, but she just wanted me to listen. To show love by listening." He went on to admonish Raymond and other husbands in the audience to be like Jesus, who constantly showed love for people just like his Heavenly Father Jehovah. "We want to be husbands to gain deep respect," explained Johnson.
The talk was then focused on the role of Darlena as Raymond's wife. "The wife's role should be honorable. If it is not, the results is confusion and unhappiness. Her cooperation with him is not competition. Based on Ephesians 5:33, each one of you 'must love his wife as himself. A wife should have deep respect for her husband. Husbands have to earn that deep respect by how he treats his bride. Are you showing her love by your actions? Are you concerned about your happiness over your wife's? We must be selfless because you really love them." The concluding words before the wedding vows were powerful. Brother Johnson spoke about how husbands and wives should do simple things for each other because it shows consideration and love. "When you do these things it may seem small and when you include Jehovah, it makes it a threefold cord. Studying the Bible with your children and your bride draws you closer to Jehovah," said Johnson. It was now time for the presentation of the wedding vows between Raymond and Darlena.
