Once, in a dream
On a sunny hillside plateau overlooking
the sea
The day was warm and windy
With olive trees whispering behind me
I knew exactly what it was that I
wanted.
I looked across the deep blue waters
Little white capped waves and cliffs
so high
And saw another plateau jutting
straight up from
The bottom of the sea, far from
the shore
The dirt and rock sides so high;
impossible to scale
On top - one small house surrounded
by roses and olive trees
A small garden and some grape vines
You stood in the doorway waving
to me - I could not reach you; I
knew I would never dare
Smiling from the doorway;
you knew it too.
So content to stay the way we are
In bliss keeping this space, this
rift between our hearts
My friend, so carefully we tread
That fine line between wrong and
right; That bitter little pill we
swallow that seperates
what is and what could be -
all the time knowing
The best of part of it all,
the friendship, would be endangered
Its a risk we don't take
Knowing the friendship wouldn't
really pass the test
When standing in this bright sun
Nor the journey across those
cresting waves
Yet in our dreams.
Perhaps tonight we'll find our way
With one candle or a lamp
Brave enough to fly on wings of wax
and feathers like Icarus
but to the moon
Across this small piece of Sea,
and this one rift between us
In the darkness, no words spoken
To play at love, whisper the
unspeakable
When only the shadows witness
Deeds of nighttime passions let loose
And in the morning before Sun is
risen - All is as was before.
I wake from dreaming
Under lilac bowers and
jasmine flowers
Another lover’s secret sealed.
Amnesia would pray be on our side
to wipe slates clean before we wake
so we could go on loving so deeply,
my friend,my ally, for without you
Life would be so much darker, heavier,
My world would be so
drastically changed
I wake up smiling,
knowing you'll call
nothing has changed between us,
Reality sets in, with a vague
recollection and sinking feeling,
but I can quickly brush it aside
With your laugh, your smile,
your touch
All is as it should be,
fragments of a dream.
