Religious believe or not believe, why is this a problem!

Updated on March 15, 2015

I may now take a step into mined land, and stick my nose where I shouldn't, but I take the risk! Around the world, all sorts of religion are debated, and it seems that there is no end to that constant arguments on what is the RIGHT believe or the right religion. And for me, this is very simple. There isn’t a right believe for all of us. And I don’t think it is necessary either!

Why is this so hard?
Why is this so hard?

I have read and listened to people who arguing about religion so many times that I have stopped counting. And no matter how much we argue or fighting over religion we will never come to an agreement about which one is the right religion. Every time I read or have to listen to that kind of argue I am so astonished and distressed over the rancorous tone in the discussions. It makes me very sad and actually ashamed to be human. Even here on hub pages it seems like this issue shows the worst in humans. And that goes for both parts.

I am not writing this article to lecture anyone, but mainly to focus on this strange behaviour. And here is the puzzle! Why is it so, that we can not allow others to think different from us? Why can’t we not just move on and conclude that: ok, he/she has a different opinion than me on this subject. And that would be the end of it! Or at least it would be for me! The other person is still a human being, and most certainly you disagree of many other things in life. But no, when it comes to religion, it is like many people must convince the other person of his or hers believe. No, disrespect, but to try to convince another man that your believe is the right thing, is like trying to convince a person who likes blue colour that he should like yellow instead, or to try to convince someone that he should go against his political beliefs. That won’t happen in most cases, so why can’t we give it a rest.

Personally I am not a religious person, as you might have guessed by now. But I respect those who are believers and are happy for them. I am not considering myself an atheist neither, or what is that anyway? Is it a person that doesn’t believe in anything or is it someone who doesn’t believe in any established religion.

If it in the word atheist refers to a person who must prove the non-existence of gods and that the burden of proof therefore lies with those who believe that god exists, than I am certainly not an atheist.

I believe in many things as; being a good person, caring about my fellow human beings and not deliberately treat any living creature bad, the universe and human beings.

I have no problem with religious people or atheists as long as they not try to convince me to believe or not believe. And for those who wonder; I live a life full of meaning!

This seems to be very difficult!

Good quotes!

“ I am not concerned with you liking or disliking me…. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being!” Jackie Robinson.

“To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is even greater”! John Addams.

“To me, we must learn to spell the word RESPECT. We must respect the rights and properties of our fellowman. And then learn to play the game of life, as well as the game of athletics, according to the rules of society. If you can take that and put it into practice in the community which you live, then, to me you have won the greatest championship!” Jesse Owens.

Respect others oppinions!

Instead of argue, try to listen to each other and respect the other person’s opinions or believe. Maybe you wouldn’t want to live your life with a person of opposite mind, but that isn’t the issue here. You must still respect that other people can think different from you, and that they are alright anyway. We are still of the same kind, we eat, sleep, work, love and hate, smile and cry, and live our life’s in the same way. A person with different opinion can be quite interesting if you don’t take it as a personal assault. And why should you? You have the right to your opinion anyway, and the other peoples thoughts or believes shouldn’t affect you.Take the right to control your own thought, without damaging or insult others. If you are offended by people with different believe or opinions you should put your mind and effort on improvement of your self esteem instead. That will lead to something useful instead of wasting time on argue that won’t lead anywhere.

No matter what you do or what you think, you can’t win them all! Instead you can count on that at least half of the people around you are of a different mind or think that you are wrong. Many times it is less than that. If you think of it that way you won’t be disappointed!
