Morning Coffee with Jesus, October 5, 2011

Updated on October 4, 2011

Greetings loved ones!

Today’s “Morning Coffee with Jesus” comes from Proverbs 27:1,“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”

I live about 75 minutes from New York City and many of the radio stations to which I listen on my way into work each morning and on my way home each evening originate from the Big Apple. Yesterday, on my way home, the program to which I was listening at the time was interrupted by a press conference. The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomburg, was briefing the press regarding a helicopter which crashed into the East River earlier in the afternoon. Unfortunately, one person died, two were listed in critical condition, and one in serious condition. The victims of the accident were British and Australian business people but the specific details regarding who, what, when, where, why, and how have yet to be determined.

It was confirmed that the person who died was a female. We know her as, “the victim.” Jesus not only knows her by name, He knows everything about her – more than she knew about herself. He also knows that her loved ones will be heartbroken over her loss of life.

I often sit in the morning when I’m having “Morning Coffee with Jesus,” (yes, I really do!) and I anticipate what my day will be like and how I’m going to spend my time doing thus and so. In the evening when I have the opportunity to speak with my mother I always tell her, “I love you. I’ll talk with you tomorrow.” But today I was rudely reminded that tomorrow is not guaranteed to me or anyone else, just as it was not guaranteed to the woman who boarded the helicopter yesterday afternoon. For that reason, I must tell those I love how I feel about them today. I also need to check in with Jesus today and not wait until tomorrow – it may never come.

When was the last time you told your spouse, significant other, mother, father, or other loved one just how much he/she means to you? When was the last time you hugged your children or prayed for them?

If you didn’t do those things this morning, hopefully you’ll have the opportunity to do that tonight. Pray with and pray for your loved ones, friends, and (yes) your enemies, too. We are not guaranteed tomorrow so we need to love today, forgive today, and be patient today.

Have an awesome day in Jesus – TODAY!

Stay sweet,
stay broken,
stay His!

Blessings,
E.
