The food that affects our thought pattern!
Pure vegetables promote pure quality
How food affect our thoughts?
As waves after waves rush towards the shore and one wave mixes with another, it is the same with the tendencies of human beings! The passive and active nature always tries to exert its influence and at times, we are surrounded by a peaceful disposition. The order is not always the same. At some point of time, the active force comes to the fore. Rarely, we get peace or calmness. Most of the time, it is activities, both mental and physical and at times we long for rest and relaxation! This we term as ‘mood swing. If we analyses the nature of the mind, it is influenced by any of the three qualities at some point of time. If our conscious could be compared to Deep Ocean, the advancing and receding waves are like the alternating moods of our mind. We are always affected by one quality at a time. How to escape from the three qualities and remain absolutely serene is the important aspect of human life.
The scriptures classify them as “Satwa, Rajas and Thamas”. The first quality represent calmness and peaceful disposition, the second one, active, passionate and full of emotions like anger, the third one is sloth, laziness and sleep! In a day, everyone undergoes the effects of all the three qualities. If you observe certain people, they will be always active, doing something! Another set of people like resting all day, sleeping and dreaming and the third set of people will be spiritually oriented, practicing chanting, worship and social service. We have today, many organizations around the world doing philanthropic work, poor feeding, conducting free medical camps and training the villagers in hygiene and health! These three qualities make up man’s essential character. Each such quality thrives in thoughts and thoughts are the result of quality of food and environment. Hence our ancestors were choosy in selecting the food items... Sages and saints ate green leaves, fruits and vegetables, buttermilk and a little ghee along with pulses and grains. This menu enhances the capacity of one’s thinking, and enables him to follow noble human virtues.
Food that promote Rajas
Three main qualities of people are influenced by different varieties of food!

Three varieties food promote three different qualities!
Demonic qualities thrive due to animal food!
Several experiments were carried out by some persons on the relationship between food intake and the resultant thoughts. Prominent among them is Mahatma Gandhi who followed a menu of peanuts and goat’s milk. He was able to maintain his poise and peace while following this menu. He was active, healthy and performed all his tasks energetically! This menu comes under Satwik category which is best among the three! We categorize people in three categories, holy people, active people and lazy lot. In olden days, there were demons residing in deep jungles, who consumed all animals, birds and beasts without any distinction. Demons have no compassion in their makeup. Hence, they were bent upon harming peace loving saints and sages living in the Ashrams in the jungles. They intentionally spoiled the rituals performed by the sages by pouring blood and meat pieces inside the sacrificial fire! Shri Rama and Lakshmana, sons of emperor Dasaratha were deputed to guard such rituals performed by sage Viswamitra! At the instruction of the sage, Rama and Lakshmana guarded the Divine ritual and killed all the demons that caused disruptions!
Because of the quality of food intake, the demons behaved thus, while the sages who performed rituals for the welfare of the world took fruits and milk. Even in the present environment, if we practice taking Sathwik food, we can maintain our calmness and composure at all times! Hence, as far as possible consume vegetarian food which will promote harmony and peace among people!
