YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MOTHER
Navratri 2014
Happy Sharad Navratri! Navratri celebrates the greatness of the Divine Mother. Two times a year Navaratri is celebrated: during the month of Chaitra (March/April) or the month of Ashvin (September/October).
What kind of relationship do you have with the Mother? She is always very close to you. She is in your heart and soul. She is all the energy and action in your life. She is all your creativity. She delivers you from stress and distress. She is your greatest friend and protector, much like your own mother. She is the beautiful lotus flower. She is power, will and determination. She is your intuition and intelligence. She is a warrior going into battle for you. She is material and spiritual prosperity.
What encounters have you experienced with the Mother? Does She come to you through the people you know? Does She come to you when you are hopeless and lost? Does She help you provide all the good things in life? Do you experience Her greatness when you are in nature? Does She come to you in dreams telling you important messages for your life?
On September 30th at Shri Gaayatri Mandir in Minneapolis, I will become Saraswati Ma, goddess of the arts, music, the sciences, intelligence, creativity, intuition and education. When you take on one of Her forms and roles, you start to connect with Her on different levels. You see Her in everyday life. She gives you messages and signs about Her power and grace. You encounter Her every day when you walk on Mother Earth, for She is Mother Earth. She has Her symbols and Her transports. She is the music of life, the arts and all those creative moments when an inspiration comes to you. She invites you to come to Her when you need Her. She is so playful with you at times like a beautiful cat, a graceful swan or a fleeting moment when everything is perfect and calm. She is the Book of Life. She plays Her veena for you. She is so clever and asks the Gandharvas to give back the Soma plant to the devas. She enchants everyone with her sacred notes. Her music is so intoxicating that they give back the Soma plant to the devas, so that they can learn her music. She appears when you need to learn life's lessons. She is the Great Mystery, the Great Spirit and the Creatrix.
I am waiting for Her to give me some secrets, some great stories and to be a child again in Her arms. She has Her wonderful colors of the rainbow: white for purity, red for dignity and grace and yellow to symbolize her appearance day.
Personal encounters with Her can be so powerful. When everything is taken away from you, She comes to give you hope. Will you be able to use your greatest gifts She has given you? Every moment you wonder when things will get better for you. Permanent jobs are hard to find. Then She comes in a personal encounter through someone you love so dearly. Then She gives you the opportunity to use your gifts in amazing ways. Some of us live with challenges. Some of us have to decide between paying the rent, paying for food, healthcare and utilities. Others have good sized banks accounts. Sharing your gifts is all you can do sometimes when you have meager material resources. You have to become creative in using your resources. This is why the most creative often have less. When you are materially rich, you do not have to be so creative with your resources. In fact you do not have to even think about how you will pay for basics. You learn so much more when you have less materially. You realize that all you have is your relationship with the Divine Mother. Be generous always. Be inclusive always. No need to be in a little box or theme. Go with the flow. Be spontaneous. What you had planned might be greater when you go with the flow.
Bring me justice, Mother, for only Your power and energy brings justice to the world. Every great social movement has the Mother energy. We must all work for social justice for it is not right to see people without the basics and human rights. That means some of us are not sharing. In the Native Americans cultures, the richest person had the least materially because the richest person gave the most away to others. We all need to be more like these elders. Remember Gandhi tapped into the Mother Energy for social actions in the Indian Independence Movement. He used the social complaint in the greatest way to affect social change for the good. His model has been used in many successful movements since to bring justice.
I now know that the Mother comes to you when you least expect it. She comes on nine nights and all nights. This Navratri call to the Mother. She will answer you and bring you peace!
JAI SHRI MA!
