Zephaniah 3:17

Updated on April 21, 2016

Zephaniah 3:17 KJV
[17] The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

This verse has so much in it! Experiencing it is beyond description, but I'm gonna give it a shot because so many people get caught up in the traditions of the church and denominations that we lose sight of what praise and worship music really is. Do you realize that music is one of the few things that we will experience in heaven that is granted to us here on earth. So let's take a few moments and get back to the heart of worship. Your worship team isn't up front to preform for you they are there to lead you! They supply the music and words to the songs so that you know them and can join in! The audience is God not you. When we lift our voices and hands we are inviting the holy spirt to come into us we are emptying ourselves of self and filling up with Him! This can be a very intimate time for many this is prayer as well as song to feel yourself being filled and as the scripture says often you sense a shift in the atmosphere as if someone else is there. There is! God joins us in worship When we open our hearts and minds to this the possibilities for personal spiritual growth are boundless. Music often moves us as nothing else can it involves our emotions and even moves us physically (dance) and yes dancing in church is allowed King David danced in worship.
2 Samuel 6:14-16 KJV
[14] And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. [15] So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. [16] And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord ; and she despised him in her heart.
Many people within the church feel they will run into modern day Michal's and you will when you take that leap of faith and do as the Spirit moves you there will be those who will say "oh look at her she's making a fool of herself" or "why are they getting so worked up its just a church song they aren't at a dance/concert". The Holy Spirit speaks to each of us differently while it may call Joe to raise his hand and bow his head , Sally to raise both hand and turn her face to heaven, Jack to kneel in the alter, Casey to pick up a flag and swirl and twirl away in time to the music, then there are those who are called to dance and sway often with arms raised high or flowing with the song.No one way is the "right way it's about following the prompting of the spirit within us.
Allowing the spirt to move upon you allows God to use you. When worship begins more often then not we've walked into church with all the burdens this old world has piled on us that week as the music begins to play we begin to shed that baggage and as it continues to play we are pulled into the outer courts seeking the Holy of Holies as the music plays on we enter in and leave the cares of this world at the foot of the cross we have entered into that place were we are worshipping God and praising Him! We are opening ourselves up and being ministered to HE is filling us up reminding us that HE comforts and cares for us.

HE is rejoicing in us!
With joy. Now that is something the devil tries to steal Joy he can't steal Gods so he want to try and steal ours. Music brings many people great joy so now if we take joy in song and dance I can't even begin to comprehend how much joy GOD can experience and to know that HE rejoices over me with joy well quite frankly makes me want to dance.
Jesus speaks of His joy in John 15:10-11 KJV
[10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. [11] These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
Hmm makes you stop and think don't it that Jesus's joy is in you. Why would our Father in Heaven and our Savior give us their joy? Think about the last time your child came to show you their artwork or a new dance they were learning think about the Joy that was in your heart knowing this is your child seeking to bring you Joy! I know it brings me the greatest joy when my children/grandchildren draw or craft something just for me you can't buy that it can only come from the heart! Joy can't be bought it can only be given or received. To think God rejoices over us with JOY as any Father would, but we are talking about our Heavenly Father how much greater His joy must be, because not only are we worshiping and praising Him we have returned to HIM through His son Jesus who gave His life so that we could experience the ultimate joy in knowing that one day we will Reside with Him in His Fathers house John 14:2 KJV
[2] In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so , I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Rest in His Love. Ponder that for a moment. Now what comes to mind? For me it's a sense of comfort like when my husband wraps me in his arms and I feel safe, comforted, and loved all at the same time. Gods love is far beyond that it's different for each individual. God will often use these times of worship to show His love and the pleasure HE takes in us His children.
The word rest has several definitions the one that seems to fit this verse is:
Freedom from activity or labor. A state of motionlessness or inactivity.
To just be still and take everything in to allow everything flow around and through you. to know God take the time to rest in His unfathomable love for us and to have the opportunity to feel His love surround us as we lift our voices in song and prayer. Knowing that God is with us and we are the children sitting at His feet telling Our Father all our troubles (even though He already knows but we still have to tell him) and then Giving Him praise for what He has done for us and all He has carried us through! Like a child seeking there parents approval and love we seek that from our Heavenly Father and when we are forgiven and brought back into His arms we get to worship and praise so that God can rest in His love for us.
God sings with us now that just gets me excited for worship right there to know that God sings with me Wow how cool is that, but I will add there are times when we refuse to invite Him in or Refuse to allow him in. When the Holy Spirt descends on a place or person the atmosphere is changed. There is no denying it. At times I get lost in worship as the spirit draws me in I let go of me I decrease so that HE can increase and that my friends is the Heart of Worship. When we let go of self and realize it's All about HIM. You see we shouldn't lift our hands with out feeling The Spirits prompting nor should we dance without it nor should we deny That prompting when you feel that tug or find your hands reaching out as if to touch the hem of Jesus robe answer that call lift your hands in worship. If the Spirit prompts you to dance then by all means do so dance like David danced for God never for a show but for the pure joy that God has placed in your heart. And SING out during in praise and worship God hears your cry and will join in and minister to you right where you are even if you haven't been saved I've seen God bring people to their knees in repentance and acceptance of Christ as the music plays God can use this time to call you to HIM.
