10 Most Popular Concealed Carry Guns

Updated on June 17, 2015

Determining the Most Popular Concealed Carry Handguns

We make holsters for hundreds of different handguns at Alien Gear Holsters. To help people choose a concealed carry handgun we have collected data on which concealed carry holsters are our top sellers. This is by no means the authoritative list of best concealed carry handguns, but it has a lot of valuable information on some of the most popular choices

#10 Glock 22-.40 S&W

The Glock 22 is the FBI's choice of firearm, so you know it has to be reliable. They previously used the Sig Sauer P226, but switched to this gun in 1998. Handguns that fire the famous .40 S&W are known for their decent capacity and solid impact, perfect for taking out bad guys.

#9 Colt 1911 45 ACP 5"

A classic American gun, the Colt 1911 is a large concealed carry gun that packs a punch. It's advantage lies in the ability to make quick work of assailants, requiring less shots than something like a 9mm. Not the best choice for close quarters due to its large size, but reliable in almost all situations.

#8 Sig Sauer P938

The Sig Sauer P938 is a pocket sized 9mm many people have chosen to rely on. You can rest assured that any Sig weapon is going to be high quality. The P938 is going to be a very comfortable choice for people who prefer 1911's, due to their similarities. Overall this is a great pocket pistol, just be prepared for a slightly higher than average price.

#7 Springfield XD 40

Springfield's XD line of handguns has become well known throughout the gun world. The XD 4" is up there with the best, especially those looking for a concealed carry handgun with a little more oomf than a 9mm. The .40 caliber round is going to give you a more satisfying impact than the 9mm and less recoil than the .45 acp, making it a very popular round for concealed carriers.

#6 Ruger SR9C

Ruger took an already amazing handgun, the SR9, and made a version more suited for concealed carrying. A small, light handgun that is accurate and supreme at close quarters. This is a good option for people confident in their aim; this 9mm handgun carries only 10 rounds while some of its competitors can carry upwards of 17.

#5 Springfield XD Subcompact

Also called the XDSC, this subcompact comes in either 9mm or .40. It has a double stack magazine, which some people traditionally either love or hate. Often times people like single stack magazines because there is a smaller chance of jams and are more accurate. You don't have to worry about missing shots with the XDSC; it stays accurate despite the double stack mag and the performance doesn't suffer. If you're a fan of Springfield there's no reason why this shouldn't be your concealed carry handgun.

#4 Glock 26/27

Glocks are vastly popular, and for good reason—Glocks are often touted as the most reliable of all handguns. Before the Glock 42 these two were the smallest handguns Glock made. The difference between these two guns is the caliber. The Glock 26 is 9x19mm and the Glock 27 utilizes the more powerful .40. Both are great choices for your concealed carry needs.

If you are really having a hard time choosing between the two, you should know that law enforcement across the country uses the Glock 27 because it's lightweight, accurate, and hits hard.

#3 Springfield XD-S

The XD-S comes in both 9mm and .45 ACP varieties, and both have the same external dimensions. It is up to you whether you want higher capacity or harder hitting rounds. This gun is a little bigger than some of the subcompacts previously mentioned, but that also means you can expect less recoil when using larger rounds.

#2 S&W M&P Shield 9mm/40mm

This is one of the most popular concealed carry handguns out there. Its compact size, concealability, and light weight makes it a desirable choice for the every day carrier. Available in different calibers, this gun is sure to get the job done whether you go 9mm or .45 ACP. A very good gun for a very reasonable price, it's easy to see why it came in at number two on the list.

#1 Glock 19/23

No matter what list of handguns you see the Glock 19 and 23 are most likely going to make an appearance. The 19 holds an astounding fifteen rounds of 9mm ammo. The high capacity combined with incredible accuracy make it a choice concealed carry handgun.

The Glock 23 is a bit larger, but for good reason. Again it has high capacity, especially considering it fires the meaty .40 caliber slug. When it comes to concealed carry handguns reliability is the most important, and that's why these Glocks come in at #1.
