Anti Glazer Campaign - Green and Gold Scarves at Manchester United
Have you seen those green and gold scarves at Manchester United and wondered what they mean? Did you know that Manchester United even though just yesterday, 21 April 2010 were named as the most valuable football club in the world are in over £700 million debt!
All of this is due to a ridiculous American family with the name Glazer. When Malcolm Glazer started buying Manchester United from the years 2003 - 2005 he was only interested in buying Manchester United - probably the best, biggest and most famous football club in the world for money and personal gain. He did not care about the fantastic history of the club and events like Munich. He did not care about the millions of fans worldwide. He did not even care about football and is not even a football fan let alone a Manchester United fan. And he did not care about the future of this great club. When Malcolm Glazer bought the majority club in 2005 the news angered Manchester United all over the world and when he first tried to arrive at the club there was a riot.

Worse than all this though is he somehow managed to pass most of the money he borrowed most of the money to buy the club (about 800 million) and then once he bought it passed over £500 million onto the club! How he did that and how he had the cheek of it I don`t know. Just the interest payments are over £60 million a year! Manchester United had a record turnover last year and I think the highest turnover for any football club ever! Yet if they had not sold their best player Ronaldo who is probably the second best footballer in the world and sold for a record £80 million fee they would have made a loss! All of this debt to have the privilege of having some American family in charge who could not care less about the club or football and owns probably the biggest football club in the world!
Glazer Protests
The Glazers have caused much hate and rage from most United fans and so they should. While they have been at the club they have got the club in millions of pounds of debt, ticket prices have increased by over 42% and only a small percentage of the money from Ronaldo has been used to buy new players.
Thousands of fans have stopped renewing their season tickets and a lot more action has been taken this year.
The football club FC United of Manchester was set up as a protest by many fans and you will often hear Anti Glazer songs at their matches.
The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) have taken action and have been getting United fans together and try to get rid of the Glazers.
Green and Gold Scarves
MUST decided to sell scarves in the club`s original colours as a protest against the Glazer family. Thousands of green and gold scarves have been sold and they are being sold quicker than they can be made. It is fantastic as fans stand up for what they believe in and try and get rid of those stupid American businessmen.
The atmosphere inside Old Trafford is fantastic and you will see nearly a half of the crowd now have green and gold scarves. Fans united against the Glazer family and at the same time show their love and support for United which is the beauty of it. There are many anti glazer songs being sung now too and now at the end of the season it is going to get even more impressive and bigger! Things like Love United Hate Glazer are seen on giant banners around the ground and are sung throughout the matches but especially when the team are winning and it looks like they will easily win the match.

Protest getting stronger
The protests are getting stronger and fans are feeling stronger about it too. A group called the Red Knights have already put in an offer for the club which the Glazers turned down and are planning on a new offer after the season finishes. They promise they will lower ticket prices and make the club owned by the fans.
A significant moment in the campaign was the AC Milan match in the Champions League and the MUST numbers rose by thousands after David Beckham showed his true colours by wearing a green and gold scarf!
MUST now have over 150,000 members join today and stand up for football and Manchester United! (I am not from MUST in case you are wondering but a strong Man United fan and hate what the Glazers have done to the club as I am sure any true United fan does!)
The video above is fantastic as it shows what the Green and Gold Campaign is all about. The respect, support and love from United fans towards Beckham is fantastic and the best I have ever seen for a player returning to a club. Notice all the green and gold scarves and how many people have them - all Anti Glazer! It then shows fans singing the "Love United Hate Glazer song" and other songs and shows what this is all about! Beckham then picks up one of the scarves and wears it as shown in the picture and I think this among other things show he is a Manchester United Legend! This video summarises everything perfectly!
