Best Crossbows for Sale Under $1000

Updated on February 4, 2015

Times are Changing for Crossbows

In just the past year, there are now more people that are looking to purchase a crossbow to hunt. There are now 24 states that have come on board with the full permitted use of crossbows during hunting seasons. If you are new to the industry, or if you have an upper limit to the amount that you are willing to spend that is around 1000 dollars, then you have come to the right place. In the following article, I will give you the top crossbows under (1 is slightly over) 1000 dollars. All these crossbows are good for the price point that they are at. What is the best for one person, might not be the best for another. I have included a table that highlights some of the main selling points of each crossbow as well; Enjoy!

TenPoint Shadow Ultra-Lite

The first crossbow that takes the stage is the TenPoint Shadow Ultra-Lite. If you look around the web you can find this package for 999.99. The first thing that I noticed was that it was extremely light. I believe that the bare bow was 6.4 pounds and I thought that it was very balanced. It also had a high cheek piece that I thought would take some time to get used to, but it actually made me lean less on the stock, making for a more comfortable shooting posture. It was deadly accurate out to about 40 yards. I am sure that it would be good, at further distances, but I try not to take shots further than what I will hunt too often. The trigger pull was also really nice coming in at 3.5 pounds.

Barnett Ghost 410

If you are looking for something that has a little bit more speed in the crossbow, then you should check out the Barnett Ghost 410. This crossbow does have a little bit more weight to it, coming in at 7.2 pounds, but it is only 20'' ATA. The 410 was an improvement from its predecessor the Ghost 400. I am a fan of the finger reminders, and the pass through fore grip as I feel that they give a better shooting experience. Barnett also made sure to work on the overall balance of the crossbow when they advanced from the Ghost 400 to make the ghost 410.

Excalibur Matrix 380

The Matrix 380 is slightly over the 1000 price point coming in at 1099.99, but I believe that the user experience makes up for the extra hundred. The 380 is the best Excalibur crossbow for sale because it offers shooters bone-splitting kinetic energy in a compact profile. I also chose this bow because I have a keen affinity for recurves. This crossbow is made to last. It comes with Excalibur's Guardian Anti Dry Fire system that prevents you from shooting the crossbow if there is no arrow in place. If you are looking for something that will last you a good while, then I suggest that you check to see if you can find a Matrix 380 Excalibur crossbow for sale.

Carbon Express Intercept CX

If you are a fan of the AR-15 platform, then the crossbow that comes to mind is the Carbon Express Intercept CX Crossbow. The first thing that stuck out to me was that the Picatinny rail offered close to 30'' of space for your accessories. This crossbow was clearly made for the shooter that wants to have a completely customizable experience. This crossbow is also one of the more compact in the field with a 17'' uncocked and 13-1/2'' cocked ATA. With a 3.5 pound trigger and the AR-15 platform, this has the feel of shooting a gun--it was both fluid and consistent.

So there you have it. If you are looking for something that will keep you in the 1000 price range and you are not willing to budge on quality, then I would recommend that you take a look at these crossbows. I included more compounds, than recurves, but if you are looking for a recurve crossbow then I would have to suggest looking for an Excalibur crossbow for sale. Any questions, feel free to leave it in the comments section. You can find more articles about crossbows here.
