Five Best Family Camping Tents With Tall People in Mind

Updated on November 11, 2010

There are many ways to enjoy the great outdoors; one of the most popular and enjoyable outdoor activities among families, friends and young people is camping. Setting up a tent where you can enjoy the fresh air of nature and get away from the hassles of city life is many people's idea of a real vacation. What better way to unwind from the stress of daily life? Here what I think are some benefits of camping:

1. It allows you to see the outside world and forget about the dizzying life of the city. You get to see wildlife, plants and the open sky; this can only be good for your spirit and body.

2. It brings families together. When else do you have so few distractions and the opportunity to really talk and reconnect?

3. Camping will make you realize what nature has to offer and it's all for free. With your senses open wide and re-awakened, you will begin to realize the beauty of your surroundings.

4. Camping is an inexpensive way to have a relaxing vacation. Your only expenses is your initial outlay for gear.

5. It's a fun step back in time. You get to see how your ancestors may have lived, well, with a few of today’s modern amenities. What a great way to commune with nature.

So if you want to enjoy a quality vacation without spending a huge amount of money, go camping!

Now, if you aren't familiar with tents, here are 5 of my favorites. They're affordable, durable and convenient.

If you and a few friends plan to go camping together, this Yosemite 2-room dome tent might be right up your alley. It can house 3 to 4 people and has a removable divider to divide the tent into 2 rooms. It also has a double D door so you can get in and out with no problem. It measures 10 x 6 x 8 feet and weighs 13.65 pounds so you can easily carry it on your next trip. Because of the divider, you can enjoy a little privacy; handy when changing clothes or when sleeping. And it's roomy; you can fit two twin air beds for a great night of sleep. It also has three mesh-zippered windows so you can feel the cool night air. The body is made of nylon that's best suited for camping in warmer months. It can handle light rain well. It's also very easy to set up.

A great choice for a family tent, this Columbia tent can comfortably house 4 to 5 people. It includes a tub floor that keeps the floor dry, a remote control light, skylights and ventilation system to let in the fresh air. It stands at 74 inches in the middle and 12 x 9 feet (base) so it's really roomy and quite tall for a tent. It's also a good choice for rainy weather because it has a protection system made of DryTek Fabric that makes the tent water resistant. It has a very cool awning so you can wipe your feet or take your shoes off as you go in without getting wet in rain. It also has a Clean Sweep zippered floor so you can actually detach the floor and sweep it out. Whether you're in the tent or out, the two foot lockers are easily accessible, great for keeping your camping flashlights, binoculars and other small accessories. This Bugaboo tent is perfect for camping family-style.

This tent is perfect for two people though it's really built for three. It's easy to set up and it's lightweight so good for hiking trips. You'll appreciate the vented roof, waterproof floor, patented hoop fly frame and mesh windows. If you want a tent that has extra shoe pocket, E-port and security lock for your accessories and with a rainfly to protect it from rain when camping then this portable tent is best suited for you. Although its size is just enough for 2 to 3 individuals, this tent is really durable and very reliable on all terrain locations. Professional mountaineers and hikers, and hunters usually prefer this one and for a single person, this is quite roomy and more airy.

If you want a tall tent so that you won’t have to squat while inside it then this can be the right tent for you. It has a domed shape center panel that is 6.5 feet high and 10 feet wide and the whole tent weighs 13 pounds only. It also has mesh windows for more cooling system and a floor less design so it’s perfect to stand it in the sand or on the meadows. Although it seems to be a large tent, it is lightweight and can be set up in minutes because of its revolutionary mechanism that does not have loose parts. Its pole system is strong and sturdy and it does have more pegs for stability and against strong wind. This tent is typically suitable for camping on the beaches or shores as its dome shape panel can also provide UV protection at SPF 50. But if you want a roomy and tall tent for your hiking needs, taking it along with your camping cot can be the best idea. It can house 5 or 6 people, very airy and comfortable.

It can house 8 people, has two rooms, 2 doors that are located at the front and back and its center height is 6’5” tall so its very good for tall people and makes it easy for them to stand and walk inside the tent. When it comes to setting it up, this one is really a breeze to stand. It will take you few minutes during your first time and the second time will take you less than a minute. Because it is big in built with a dimension of 48 x 10.9 x 10.3 inches, it weighs 43.8 pounds so there must be an individual bag for this family size tent and this is provided when you buy this tent. Your family will also be protected from rain with this tent and it is capable to withstand strong wind. So if you are looking for a spacious and airy tent, you can greatly consider this one.
