What Sets the Giro Atmos Apart From All the Rest?
The Giro Atmos features 26 vents using Giro’s Wind Tunnel ventilation system. The system combines the 26 active vents with internal exhaust channels. The internal exhaust channels are located on the inner portion of the helmet to move air. These channels moves cool, fresh air over and around the rider’s head while at the same time forcing heat and stale air out the back of the helmet.
Giro uses In-mold technology that fuses the helmet’s outer shell with the impact absorbing liner. The two are fused together and reinforced by the other. This allows the helmet to be lighter, better ventilated and more durable that most on the market today.
Giro also uses a system called Super Fit Technology that results in a helmet that fits 98% of the world’s population.

What is the most important factor when choosing a bicycle helmet?
My Giro Atmos Helmet Story
All my life experience comes from hard lessons that I’ve learned and selecting a bicycling helmet was no exception. While learning the fine sport of inline speed skating at the young age of 40, I set out to find and buy the absolute best equipment that I could get my hands on. I’m a firm believer that learning on the best equipment makes the learning curve much easier to master. I spent lots of dollars on wheels, bearings, boots and frames but I never put much thought into my helmet selection. After all, aren’t all helmets the same?
Although I had NEVER had wheels attached to the bottom of my shoes before I was determined to learn this crazy sport. After all, all these kids were doing it, so could I…right!? They made it look too easy. I quickly realized that learning to inline speed skate required me to fall…. a lot! That’s when a close friend told me that if I was going to continue to punish myself then I needed to invest in a better helmet. He said, “$10 helmets protect $10 heads!” Although he was just kidding (all bicycling helmets sold in the United States are theoretically equally safe and must comply with the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) guidelines), I decided that if I was going to keep learning and keep falling I might as well look good and feel comfortable before I hit the floor!
Even though my friend recommended the Giro Atmos helmet from the beginning, I just couldn’t bring myself to spend nearly $200 for a helmet. It seemed just too crazy to spend that kind of money on a helmet that offered the same protection as a helmet for much less money. I bought several more helmets only to find them uncomfortable, hot and bulky. So my search continued when one day I went into my local bike shop and tried on the Giro Atmos and immediately knew why my friend had recommended it.

Giro Atmos Helmet Pro's and Con's
Pros
The fit is superb! The way the liner conformed to my head is amazing. It felt as though as the helmet had been made specifically for me.
Lightweight! Weighing in at 275 grams this helmet is one of the lightest on the market. This is extremely important for those long rides when everything that you’re wearing gets heavier with each petal stroke.
Durable. I’ll admit that I’m the world’s clumsiest cyclist. I’ve dropped it, smashed it and even closed it in a car door and it still looks brand new…..well not really but it does take a beating fairly well.
Dependable. The best feature about this helmet is that you can depend on it to save your head in a crash. Since I do take too many chances out on the road and am very aggressive I’ve had my share of scary crashes. Two of my crashes resulted in a blow to my head. The helmet saved my head during a 20 MPH crash. The helmet was destroyed but it saved me from death or at the very least a very serious head injury.
Excellent Air Flow. I know this is a personal preference but riding in the heat of Texas has made me appreciate the excellent air flow that this helmet provides. Although I wouldn’t go as far to say that it feels like air conditioning it is much cooler than the less expensive brands.
Cool Design: This helmet just simply looks good! Hey I know that looks shouldn’t matter but I want to look as good as I feel and the Atmos delivers one cool-looking design.
Cons
Excellent Air Flow. How can this be both a Pro and a Con? It’s not always hot in Texas. The vents can’t tell the difference between winter and summer so using the Atmos during the winter months can be a little chilly. A cheap helmet cover, bandana or something similar will help.
Locking Mechanism. I was debating on whether or not to list this as a con but after 4 years of riding almost 120+ miles a week, the locking mechanism is beginning to slip.
