The New York Jets

1980's Retro Tee Shirt

Now most think that I am a traitor and that it is impossible to root for both the Jets and the Giants, but I do. For the 1pm game on Sundays I bleed green and then at 4 pm I bleed blue (or visa versa as the schedule permits). Before I even understood the game I was a Jets fan. And the day when The “New York Sack Exchange” hit the gridiron these front four only pulled me in deeper. Yes calling the Jets D the sack exchange was a clever pun reserved for the front four in the early-to mid-1980s. This group was headlined by five-time Pro Bowler Mark Gastineau and his ceremonial “sack dance”. Add to the four his teammates Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam and you have one of the toughest defense in football history. The Jets D earned its nickname in ’81, upon the Jets’ first playoff berth since 1969 when a fan at Shea Stadium held up a bedsheet on which he’d scrawled “New York Sack Exchange” and yes a legend was born.

The 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers defense allowed, on average, fewer than ten points per game. Considering that the ‘76 Baltimore Colts offense averaged nearly 30, this is was no small feat. The Steel Curtain, led by Hall of Famers “Mean” Joe Greene, Jack Ham and Jack Lambert, held five teams scoreless that season, and allowed no touchdowns in eight of the last nine games, before bowing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Raiders 24-7. An unheard of eight of the 11 defensive players were selected for that season’s Pro Bowl and anchored a defense that helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win four championships in six years. Talk about a dynasty!

Green Bay Packers

1967 Retro T-Shirt

On New Year's Eve, 1967, the Dallas Cowboys met the Green Bay Packers on the freezing frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. In frightening -20 degree temperatures and tough wind chill in the -40s, the referees whistles stuck to their lips, forcing them to use vocal calls to officiate the game. Down 14-17 with 4:50 left in the fourth quarter, Packers quarterback Bart Starr led his team 67 yards to the Cowboys one-yard line. Green Bay was stuffed twice at the goal line before Starr drove into the end zone, giving the Packers their third consecutive NFL championship. The win marked Green Bay's fifth championship in seven years, prompting legendary coach Vince Lombardi to retire. It would be almost 30 years before the team would become a dominant force again. Dallas rebounded to become one of the top teams of the 1970s, winning two Super Bowls. And another dynasty makes the record books.

Miami Dolphins

1972 Vintage T-Shirt

The 1972 Miami Dolphins were the only NFL team to have a perfect 14-0 season and they held their opponents to just 18 touchdowns. They also won Super Bowls VII and VIII and today that winning record is still in place. The Dolphins defensive was led by linebacker Nick Buoniconti, end Bill Stanfill, tackle Manny Fernandez, and safeties Dick Anderson and Jake Scott. Notoriously refereed to as the No-Name Defense they were the NFL’s best that year. But it was the fins offensive with football greats such as Bob Griese, Larry Czonka and Mercury Morris that got all the publicity. Those who cheered for them and those who only have heard about them will be proud to wear this cool t-ehirt The No-Name Defense vintage tee is sure to be a favorite of all. This tri-blend retro tee features distressed, team-colored “No-Name Defense” along with the year they set the record.
