UFC heavyweight title fight: Alistair VS Junior Dos Santos

Updated on January 14, 2012

UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos

Junior Dos Santos became the UFC heavyweight champion after he defeated Cain Velasquez for the title back in late 2011. Dos Santos ended up defeating the former UFC champion early on in the very first round. Velasquez took a hard right hand to the head, and he went to the ground. Dos Santos then finished Velasquez off with a fury of punches, becoming the UFC championship.

That night it was announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was going to fight Alistair Overeem at the end of December 2011. The winner of the fight would go on to face Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight championship.

Number one contender to the UFC heavyweight title Alistair Overeem

Alistair Overeem faced former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at the end of December 2011. Overeem defeated Lesnar with quite ease. The two heavyweight fighters exchanged a few jabs here and there, and Lesnar tried to take down Overeem a few times but failed. Eventually Overeem landed a massive kick to Lesnar's side, sent Lesnar to the ground and Overeem finished Lesnar off. Overeem earned his shot at Junior Dos Santos.

Alistair Overeem will fight Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight title sometime in 2012. The fight may be one of the biggest fights that the UFC has ever had.

Junior Dos Santos strengths

Junior Dos Santos is a pretty well rounded fighter, but Santos is known as being a hard and fast puncher. Dos Santos may very well be the best fighter with boxing skills in the UFC. Junior Dos Santos can deliver one of the hardest right hands in the UFC, as fans saw what his right did when he fought former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. It will be Junior Dos Santos' boxing skills and speed that will be his biggest help factor in his fight with Alistair Overeem. Dos Santos has other strengths, but he will probably rely more on his punching and standing in his fight with Overeem.

Alistair Overeem strengths

Alistair Overeem is also a well rounded fighter. Overeem is a great standing fighter who can punch very hard. Overeem will most likely rely on his punching power and kicking strikes when he fights UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. Overeem proved how lethal his kicks can be when he fought former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Overeem delivered a lethal kick to Lesnar and sent the fighter straight to the ground.

Junior Dos Santos VS Alistair Overeem prediction

Junior Dos Santos VS Alistair Overeem will most likely go one round. This fight will most likely start of slow with Overeem trying to land a few punches and kicks, and Junior Dos Santos throwing punches here and there.

The fight between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem will likely speed up very quickly with Dos Santos and Overeem standing toe-to-toe basically, with Dos Santos mostly throwing punches and Overeem throwing back punches as well as some kicks and knee strikes.

Junior Dos Santos will most likely leave Overeem in a daze, and that's when Dos Santos will take advantage of the situation. Dos Santos will most likely send Overeem right to the ground with a hard right hand, and then finish Overeem off, retaining the UFC heavyweight title.
