The Best Way to Get and Maintain Smooth Skin

Updated on May 30, 2010

I've used oatmeal scrubs, astringents, loofahs, and chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid and alpha (AHA) and beta (BHA) hydroxy acids. Buf-Puf exfoliating sponges are more effective, less expensive, and less time consuming than all those. I love Buf-Puf exfoliating sponges! I've been using the Buf-Puf Facial Sponge nearly three decades. They are an effective, inexpensive, and natural way to maintain smooth, young-looking skin. Buf-Puf exfoliating sponges come in two sizes: facial and body.

Buf-Puf Facial Sponge

To use the facial sponge, moisten it with water, add your favorite facial or bath soap, and gently scrub your face using a circular motion. If you stop using the sponge, you may find your skin peeling (exfoliating) to reveal smooth new skin underneath. That's what happened to me. I ran out and bought new sponges that day and have not been without my Buf-Puf Facial Sponge since. Thirty years later, my skin is still very smooth.

Buf-Puf Facial Sponges come in three textures: regular, gentle, and extra gentle. I recommend beginning with regular, but don’t scrub hard. Be gentle. Your skin may feel irritated at first, but you’ll naturally apply more pressure as your skin becomes accustomed to the abrasion. The irritation goes away after a couple of weeks. Use the facial sponge in place of a bath cloth when taking your bath. You don’t need to set aside special time to use the Buf-Puf Facial Sponge.

Buf-Puf Body Sponge

The Buf-Puf Body Sponge is about the size of your palm. It’s white on one side and blue on the other. The blue side is rougher than the white side. The Buf-Puf Body Sponge comes in only one texture. It's available with and without a plastic handle.

Use the regular (white) side of the body sponge to exfoliate your entire body (except face). Give your elbows and knees a turn or two with the blue side. This will keep your knees and elbows baby smooth. As with the facial sponge, scrub gently until your skin acclimates to the abrasive action. Use the Buf-Puf Body Sponge instead of a bath cloth at bath time. You may use the included handle, but it’s not necessary except for difficult to reach places. The handle is sturdy and well built, so you’ll need to buy it only once, if at all.

Both the facial and the body sponge come in a single pack and a 6-pack. You get a price break with the 6-pack. If you think you’re too old or too young to begin exfoliating your skin, you’re not. It is never too late to exfoliate. And it’s never too soon to preserve good skin.

If you decide to use the Buf-Puf exfoliating sponges, stop using chemical exfoliants, oatmeal scrubs, and other products that contain abrasives. You could damage your skin. One type of exfoliant is sufficient.
