Clean, clear skin in the new year: A review of DDF cleansers

No matter what your style -- glamorous in the manner of the late Zsa Zsa Gabor or crunchy granola natural -- the foundation of your look is a pretty and clear complexion. What you want is a face free from blemishes, blackheads and wrinkles. Good cleansing is the first and the most crucial step in solving your problems. No toner, serum or cream will be effective for you if you don't wash your face properly. Many of the products commonly available at drug and big box stores are too harsh, especially for those of us past the teen years.

DDF -- Doctor's Dermatologic Formula was founded in 1991 by Dr. Howard Sobel, a prominent dermatologist in NYC. I was happy to be given the opportunity to experience it! DDF is particularly concerned with removing excess sebum, the natural human oil that can cause irritation and problems when excessive.

The line incorporates tumeric -- spice for thousands of years in Ayurvedic-Indian skin care tradition. It has recently been discovered scientifically to reduce inflamation, both a cause of and result of conditions like acne.

The acid in DDF Salicylic Wash helps reduce blemishes and pimples. Allantoin and Panthenol are soothing protein components in the wash that condition dry skin, so this product is appropriate for all ages. It's a clear fluid that feels refreshing. As with all medicated acne products, a little goes a long way . . . so don't pile on the products.

If you have fine lines or rough texture, but for whatever reason, moisturizer isn't a good fix for you. Maybe you're prone to breakouts or your products can't seem to penetrate. DDF Glycolic Exfoliating Wash will give you the kind of results that you probably thought were only available at the salon or doctor's office. This minty-scented clear fluid is to be used once daily or if your skin is very tender, try it every other day. The product also contains skin exfoliant Alpha Hydroxy Acid. These effective ingredients do tend to make one more sun-sensitive, so they recommend wearing protective clothing, limiting sun exposure while using the product and for a week after. It's worth it, for the smooth, brightening results you'll see fairly quickly after you start using the product.

DDF makes several other cleansers for all kinds of skin needs, as well.
