Mixed Chicks for Curly Hair

Updated on September 25, 2013

Being mixed black and white I have very thick naturally curly hair. My girls also have naturally curly hair but both are different consistency from my hair and from each other. So we have three very distinct types of naturally curly hair. Because my hair can be totally unmanageable I am on a constant quest for the right hair care product. Trust me I have tried just about them all. I am constantly being asked what I use in my hair and usually that depends on what day it is and what was the newest shampoo or conditioner that I was trying at the time. Curly hair can be frustrating to take care of but there are steps to take to make sure that you can deal with your curls. I wrote about the best way to take care of your curly hair in How to Take Care of Curly Hair. However being able to take care of your curly hair is only possible if you use really good hair care products. Finding products that are specific for my hair type and that works well is very difficult to find. Now I believe that I have found just right product; Mixed Chicks.

I was introduced to Mixed Chicks products through Facebook. I just happened to read some responses to a comment made by a salon owner friend. In the discussion they were talking about Mixed Chicks being like “crack” for curly hair. This statement caught my attention. At that moment I had to know what this Mixed Chicks stuff was all about. I went immediately to a search engine and looked up Mixed Chicks I was very interested in knowing more. My FB friend was shocked that I had never heard of Mixed Chicks and sent me a sample package of the product which included the basics; Shampoo, Deep Conditioner and Leave In Conditioner. It seemed like forever before they arrived and once they did arrive I could not wait to try them out. Of course because of my schedule at the time it would be a few days before I would be able to give Mixed Chicks a try. When I did try Mixed Chicks I was pleasantly surprised even though I was very skeptical.

The day finally came when I was able to try Mixed Chicks. I started with my normal routine. I tried the shampoo; I enjoyed the smell which was not too overwhelming as some shampoos can be because it had a nice subtle scent. I lathered and rinsed my hair in shower. Then as the directions on the website states I applied the deep conditioner and combed through my hair (I do not use brushes or combs in my hair so I used my fingers). I was amazed at how great the deep conditioner worked in my hair. The deep conditioner is a great detangler and really moisturized my hair. I could feel each curl separating and what was even more surprising is that my hair is usually very thick in the top back of my head but that was not the case after using Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner. I was done “combing” through my hair in no time; this process usually takes a great deal of time for me. After I combed through my hair I rinsed out the deep conditioner and went on to step three; the leave in conditioner. The leave in conditioner was very easy to use. All I had to do was put the conditioner throughout my hair and then let my hair dry naturally.

The end result was amazing. Each of my curls was so well defined. My curls were very soft once my hair dried and still were defined throughout the day. What I like most is that even though I have a lot of hair and it’s very thick I did not have to use a lot of product to get the effect of Mixed Chicks products.

After trying the product I was hooked and wanted to figure out where I could get the product. Unfortunately the salons that sell Mixed Chicks products are not located near where I live, so I have to order online. Ordering is very easy and the best buy is the trio. With the trio you get all three; shampoo, deep conditioner and leave in conditioner for about $40. This price might sound like a lot but again you do not need a lot of product to get the effect you want a little goes a very long way.

So if you have naturally curly hair no matter what your background is you should give Mixed Chicks products a try and see how you like it!
