1950s Dress Styles
Along with Rock 'n' Roll music, the 50s brought changes in fashion that made young women look more youthful and less like a housewife than their 40s predecessors. British styles began to follow the influences of designers such as Christian Dior.
Instead of being just practical garments, fashions started to become more feminine and showy than they were before and during the war. Waistlines were smaller and defined, skirts were flowing and made abundant use of material which was no longer rationed and restricted.
The full A line skirts were complimented with brightly coloured patterns to make for glamourous, movie style gowns that could now be bought on the High Street to make girls feel like a million dollars.
