Geographically Challenged-My Downtown Experience
A Look At Downtown, Kingston
Downtown, Kingston is home to all types of businesses and people. It can be very crowded on any given day, overflowing with people looking for deals.
I am sure I've come down this road before
Seen that face
Heard that roar
The roar of the crowd upon the hill
Where the land seems to run
As the water stands still
The thick coat of scum harboring nasty creatures
Dreadful diseases
Nasty features
And in this muck a child does hop
Oh please, please
Make it stop
Stop the vendors from being around every corner
Lining the streets
Down to the harbor
Driving for miles and still in the same place
I feel like such
A big disgrace
About The Poem
I grew up in a very cozy part of the country and have moved into the urban area recently. It was not until this move that I have come to realize how sheltered my life had been. The greatest shock was the condition of the surroundings; residents seemed to be so at ease with it.
I dread going downtown. I still have trouble finding my way around for two reasons. (1) Everywhere looks the same to me and (2) there are so many people crowding the streets that my focus is to keep everything that is on me, well, on me.
Downtown is the best place to get great deals on anything you want to buy. There is every type of clothing store, restaurant, furniture store, or institution there. If you can name it, you will find it Downtown. This is great if you do not mind dodging sewage water running on the streets (pun totally intended) and fighting off vendors from every angle.
Do not get me wrong now; I will venture to this exciting place in Kingston for a little adrenaline rush. There is always something interesting happening downtown.
