Apple Phone Dependency Can Fail You

Updated on December 12, 2011

Going to an Apple 4Gs has been a hassle

You hear all the buzz about iphone 4gs. Many phone gadget lovers would go ga-ga over the new features. But what Apple doesn't tell us is that the battery is worse than the Iphone 3g.YES! ! We users have to learn the hard way. No one will tell you you have very little battery life. This is a major inconvenience, considering I can't plug my phone in where ever I am.

I purchased my phone on Nov 8th at 5pm. I charged it over night. I made one phone call the next day at about 8:45 am. By 11:30am my phone was DEAD. I borrowed a co-workers wall plug to test it at work. It would not charge up. This INFURIATED me. I could not reach my kids.

Keep a hard copy of your important phone numbers

Why I couldnt call my kids is because I could not remember their numbers. I use the FAVORITES feature. There is never a need to memorize any phone numbers when you use Favorites. This for me a was a HUGE wake-up call as to our dependency on how technology has made me and many of us DUMB. I would imagine many parents do this.It is very very convenient to just press one button.

I was without a phone for not just one day but 2 days because I could not get to an Apple store the day it happened to rectify the problem. What I did do was write down my kids phone numbers when i got home. I made 3 copies. I leave one at work, one in my wallet and one at home. I was able to dial my husband's number because I dialed his number daily before Favorites were invented. And you should also keep a copy of your neighbors numbers and anyone that lives nearby incase of emergency. I say this because if there is a ever a power outage, you can at least run to a nearby land-line to call your loved ones. Do your kids know your numbers by heart? This is something that we take forgranted.

Apple 4gs has a very weak battery

My gripe about cell phones is because my new phone died in less than 24 hours. I also do not like spending over an hour in any phone store. It is a not enjoyable. The stores are laid out very stark, walls are lined with accessories and there are never enough chairs for people to sit as they wait. Of course it varies from location to location; I can think of better things to do with my time.

What looks simple like porting a phone number from a carrier is wrought with red tape. Why do they make it so complicated. Customers like me do not like hanging out in phone store. I even called the Verizon store to inquire how long it would take to switch me. "She said,"15 minutes." I figured it would take less time because i had already spent 45 minutes the week before ordering the phone. It took her another hour to complete my transaction.

I do not have a land-line

We got rid of our land line a year ago. It did not make any economic sense. I did for a moment wish i had a landline when my cell phone died. It seems more and more people are not using land-lines. You will have to weigh out how much you will use your land-line. Both my kids have phones and everyone that calls calls my cell phone as a home phone as well.

Apple store

I am left with no choice but to go to an Apple store to fix my phone. I arrived at the store by 5:40pm. I did not leave that store til 7PM. This is what they told me to keep my battery working which I thought was dumb. The items below drain the battery life.

Tips:

1. Don't leave your wi-fi on when not in use

2. Don't keep your phone screen bright

3. Don't have all your apps on

4. Don't restore from a previous backup

I like the wifi on for ease of use.. I leave the it brighter so i can see it. Apps are suppose to make our lives easier.

The Genius also tells me that I could have a software conflict. I was a astounded because this is my phone we are talking about. I don't have software I use on my phone. All I have is music and some kids games that my kids play.

So you can see my frustration. Apple really doesn't know and yet they call themselves Geniuses. I told them I could not keep coming back to fix my phone. I also can't be without a phone. I have been an Apple product use since 1984, I am sorely disappointed with the quality of their products.

So do yourself a favor, write down and memorize those numbers before your phone crashes again! Always remember your password for your Apple ID incase they have to restore your phone.

How much time I spent to Up-grade

45 minutes to set-up and order a phone

1 hour on a separate day to compete transaction of purchasing a phone because it was being ordered.

2 days no phone use

1 hour an 20 minutes at Apple for a repair

2 full days of aggravation because i could not contact anyone.

Is Apple losing its sight on quality?

I was not happy with the information I was told about how to keep my phone from dying. If quality is the name, then why don't they wait to do more research before releasing a product with regard to the battery life. I think it is pure greed that drives them to do this. They use to wait longer. What is the rush? Wouldn't you rather have a happy customers and less repairs?Isn't that what you have been known for all these years? The Geniuses look dumb when they tell you don't turn your wifi on at all times. Keep the screen on dim (50%).

I do have 2 suggestions for Apple. "Why don't they use a sensor to sense our body temperature. The phone will only turn on based on the reading of our personal body temperature. The phone should automatically power down to sleep when it is not in the palm of your hand to save battery. With the voice recognition, it should only turn on by the vibrational voice-sounds of the owner's to unlock the phone. ok, " I would love to be called the next Genius User/ Inventor!"
