Customize Gmail Themes - Upload your own images

Updated on October 10, 2012

Are you bored by daily watching the same Gmail interface? If you also feel so, then you are at the right place. Here you will come to know how to spice up your Gmail look and feel little different. Though, there are many themes already made available by Gmail but still they might not attract each and everyone. These days, users love to see what they actually want and that is why Google comes up with great solution by allowing users to upload their own images as Gmail themes. Customized images will certainly give more personalized feel to the users and they may end up devoting more time on Gmail and changing their favorite images at regular intervals.

How to change background image of Gmail Theme

To upload photos, Google has provided various options so that you can directly upload images from your PC or tablet, select photos from Google+ photos or simply paste any image URL.

Below are the steps to customize the Gmail theme with your lovely photos.

Step 1: Click on Settings -> Themes as shown below, a page with several themes will appear.

Step 2: Scroll down and click ‘Change your background image’ as shown below.

Step 3: After Step 2, the below page will appear. This page shows several featured images that can also be chosen, if you do find any good image.

From this page, you have the option to choose the images that are associated with your Google properties from ‘My Photos’ option. It will show the images from Google Profile, Picasa web album, and associated Google blogs. So, you can choose any photo from your Picasa album and remember the beautiful moment whenever you check your mail.

If you will see in the above image, there is also an option to upload the photos from your iPhone and Android based phone using the Google+ App. If you have a photo stored on your notebook or tablet, you can directly select that photo and make your Gmail visit more rewarding. In case you do not have a photo of your choice, you can also provide the URL of any image from the ‘Paste a URL’ option and use it as a new Gmail theme.

Tip

One tip that may be useful for you is that if you feel no image of yours is perfect as Gmail theme then you can edit your image to give it a look that will best suit as Gmail theme. You might be thinking that 'come on' I know that I can edit any image but sometimes we actually forget that we can edit multiple images to make one custom image that best suits as a Gmail theme.
