How to Delete Web Browser History and Clear Saved Form Data
This article explains how to delete browser history and saved form data in Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. To determine the version of Firefox or Internet Explorer you have, open the browser and click Help/About.
Browser history is the addresses you type into the address bar in the browser, e.g., hubpages.com. Form data is the information you type in forms on the internet, including usernames/logins, terms you type into search forms in Google, and so on.
In Firefox 2.0:
- Open Firefox.
- Click Tools/Clear Private Data. The Clear Private Data window appears.
- To remove browser history, leave the checkmark beside Clear Browsing History, or mark the check box if it is empty.
- To remove form data, leave the checkmark beside Saved Form Information, or mark the checkbox if it is empty.
- Clear any checkmarks beside options for which you do not want to delete data.
- Click Clear Private Data.
In Internet Explorer 6.x:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click Tools/Internet Options. The Internet Options window opens.
- To remove browser history, go to the History section on the General tab, and then click Clear History.
- Click Yes on the prompt that appears.
- To remove form data, click the Content tab, and then click AutoComplete. The AutoComplete window appears.
- In the Clear AutoComplete history section, click Clear Forms.
- Click OK on the prompt that appears.
- Click Close.
In Internet Explorer 7:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click Tools/Delete Browsing History. The Delete Browsing History window appears.
- To remove browser history, click Clear history.
- Click Yes on the prompt that appears.
- To remove form data, click Clear forms.
- Click Yes on the prompt that appears.
- Click Close.
