Updated on February 6, 2013

A Place for Friends

A social network service, MySpace is owned by Justin Timberlake, pop star, and Specific Media LLC.

Launched in August of the year two thousand and three, MySpace is based in the California city of Beverly Hills.

In August of two thousand and eleven, there were thirty-three-point-one million unique visitors from the United States alone.

Founded in the year two thousand three, MySpace was acquired for five hundred eighty million US Dollars in July of two thousand and five by NewsCorporation.

From '05 to '08, MySpace was the globe’s most visited social network site and in '06 overtook Google as the United States' most visited website.

In April of '08, Facebook overtook MySpace in the amount of unique visitors worldwide and was surpassed in '09 by unique US visitors.

Since this time, the number of users of MySpace has steadily declined despite many redesigns. As of '11, the service was ranked one hundred thirty-eighth in web traffic total.

In June of '09, there were one thousand six hundred workers employed but since this time the company has gone through many layoffs and by the middle of the year, the staff of MySpace was reduced to approximately two hundred.

Later, MySpace was acquired by Justin Timberlake and Specific Media for thirty-five million US Dollars.

MySpace solely operates on generated revenues by advertisements as its model of revenue possesses no features that are paid by users.

Through its affiliate networks of advertising and web site, MySpace is 2nd to Yahoo in its ability to do data-collection about its members and for this reason, its ability to utilized behavior-targets in selecting the ads that are seen by each visitor.

The features of the website include bulletins posted on a 'bulletin board' for every user and their friends to see. These can be utilized to contact entire lists of friends without having to resort to individually messaging users. These have also become a main point of attack for phishing’s. After 10 days, the bulletin is deleted.

'Groups' is a MySpace features allowing user groups to share a common message board and a page.

Anyone can create a group and the group moderator can choose anyone to be a member or to deny or approve requests for joining. In the year '10, this feature was removed and later, an instant messenger called MySpaceIM was introduced.

For its forum system, a TelligentCommunity implementation is utilized by MySpace.
