New Features of DISH's Hopper and Joey Whole-Home HD-DVR System

Updated on April 20, 2012

DISH’s Hopper and Joey system was made available last month to new and existing customers looking for a whole-home HD-DVR solution. Now, DISH has introduced the system’s first updates.

When DISH released the Hopper and Joey, they promised to complement the system’s already impressive features with frequent updates. Effective April 19, 2012, DISH has already begun rolling out these new and exciting improvements.

You can now access Facebook and Pandora on the Hopper and Joey

Facebook users can now access their accounts right on their TVs. Just select the Apps option from the Main Menu, and you’ll see the Facebook logo. You can then log in to your Wall, notifications, News Feed, photos from friends and more and interact with your friends by responding to their updates. This feature means there’s no longer any need to keep your laptop open to stay connected with friends while you watch TV.

In the mood for some music? You can also easily stream your Pandora channels on your TV with your Hopper and Joey system. Just open Pandora from the Apps menu to log into your account and get started. It’s a great way to stay entertained while working, cooking, cleaning up the house, or even hosting parties or get-togethers.

You can now record even more HD programming with the Hopper and Joey

The Hopper and Joey, with its massive 2 Terabyte (TB) hard drive, has an impressive amount of storage capacity at its release. However, as special features such as DISH Unplugged and PrimeTime Anytime initially used about half of the hard drive, HD programming storage was limited to up to 250 hours. With the new update to the Hopper and Joey, you can now record up to 500 hours of HD programming. While those same features are still available, there is now more space available on the hard drive for the programming you choose.

PrimeTime Anytime just got better and easier

View PrimeTime Anytime events from any TV with the click of a button

When a Hopper is recording primetime shows with the PrimeTime Anytime feature, you’ll now be able to see them from any TV on the active recordings screen. You can view what’s being recorded by clicking the red hot key button on the remote and join in on any event if you wish.

Save your PrimeTime Anytime shows for longer

When shows are recorded using the PrimeTime Anytime feature, they are automatically saved for 8 days. Now, you can choose to save any of the recorded programs to your DVR to extend the amount of time the shows are saved. Just access your PrimeTime Anytime folder in your DVR, select a show, and save it to your DVR.

Need help? The new PrimeTime Anytime help video will give you some pointers

Instruction manuals can be difficult to navigate, especially if you’re looking for quick help. If you’re having trouble familiarizing yourself with the PrimeTime Anytime feature, you can now view a video demonstration to give you an idea of how it works. Just go to your PrimeTime Anytime Enable/Disable screen and click the Learn More button to check it out.
