If you're looking for a small digital reader, but you don't want to pay $300 or more for one, the Sony Digital Reader in the pocket edition size is perfect.It's a great gift for the avid readers, and it's perfect for those who travel and need something to read along the way. Although, it is cheaper than other options, it's not necessarily the best. The Sony pocket reader is recommended, though, for those who want something small and cheap.

You will still get good quality with this reading devices, but you will find that it does have its disadvantages, such as:

  • Do expandable memory
  • Battery is sealed into the device
  • The 5" screen may be too small for some people
  • The zoom feature is limited with PDF files
  • Cannot display JPEGs or play back MP3 files
  • USB charging only works with PCs

Now, those disadvantages may sound like a lot, but for the price and the brand, you are still getting a good device. You just have to weigh the pros and the cons to determine whether or not this device is what you're looking for, or if you want to find something else.

With a similar appearance as the Amazon Kindle, the Sony Digital reader is still a better option. You get a great name brand with a much lower price. The Pocket Edition has a 5" screen, which is a little small, but the screen is still easy to read.

The reading device is lightweight and small so that it can easily slip into a purse or jacket pocket.

The Sony reading devices has 512MB of internal memory, which lets you carry up to 350 books at a time. The device supports industry standard formats, as well as ePub and PDF formats.

You can access the Sony eBookstore from public libraries as well as your home computer, in order to check out the 500,000+ options from Google, as well as sharing sites, online aggregators, and personal publishers.

The Sony Reader uses EInk screen technology that is able to provide paper-like pages that you can read with ease in just about any lighting. You won't get a glare from direct sunlight, but in dim lighting, you'll want a lamp so that you don't strain your eyes. You even have the option of choosing between three different font sizes so that you don't have to squint to read teeny, tiny print.

Using the eBook Library software, you can upload any of the titles from a PC or Mac using the 2.0 USB connection.

On a full charge, the battery will allow you about 7,500 continuous page turns or up to two weeks of reading.
