I prefer multiple tables......it solves the complexity which gets build when project becomes large

Good point on large projects.  A single table can get real messy on larger projects.  Data duplication can easily grow in that scenario.

When i started my proj.  i went for a large single table concept... later when the required no. of features increased i was forced to change my whole database structure to multiple tables sad (i am a student, no experience) .
      It became more flexible.

It depends on the situation. If you are creating a table that is going to be used at an input for dimensions and facts for a cube, then I would go with one flat table in order to get the best performance. If on the other hand you are developing app, then it is better to create multiple tables to match your objects in the view and controller.

It depends.  If you've studied relational databases, they talk about normalization.  When you normalize your database, you typically end up with more than one table.  One of the things normalization does is reduce space usage by removing data duplication.  If space isn't an issue, and you have a good way of handling data duplication, then a single table would do.  A single table would also tend to simplify your SQL queries since you don't have to do any table joins.
