Best Backup Software For Windows and Hyper-V (Hyperoo)

Hyperoo! Hyper what you say. That's right Hyperoo, quite possibly The Online Best Backup Software for Windows Server and Hyper-V. Now I'm not really sure where the company is that makes this software, considering the name I would have thought it was an Australian company but based on the Whois of the domain and the IP Location of the server they both point to the UK. Either way none of this really matters because at only $77 USD it is the Cheapest Hyper-V Backup Software I have ever found (and I have looked at plenty of them) that does exactly what it says it will do.

You may be thinking to yourself what about the other Backup Software that exists for Hyper-V backups. Well from my personal experience of testing and using in production many other brands of backup programs, I have found only one that just works. Some of the other products I have tried include Symantec Backup Exec, StorageCraft ShadowProtect, Acronis Backup, etc. I initially tried these products because I believed the best way to Backup a Virtual Machine was to create a full image of the entire server which will capture all the running virtual machines. However this proved to be overkill for what I really need which is to just backup the Virtual Machines themselves and then send the backups to an off-site storage location.

You bet it is! Installation is a breeze and can be installed on all versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 including Core and the Free Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. That's right you can run this software even on Core and Hyper-V Server, it simply requires you to run a few command lines to activate the .Net Features namely:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx2-ServerCore
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx2-ServerCore-WOW64
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3-ServerCore
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3-ServerCore-WOW64

Once you've run those 4 commands you can then open up the Client Interface (shown to the right) and start configuring the software. You will also need to install the server component of the backup software on either a remote server, perhaps in another location or on the LAN, or just install it on the same machine if all you plan to do is backup to a USB Hard Drive.

You may be wondering why you would want to backup to a different server in a remote location, well this is the optimal way to safe guard your data. Consider this, a fire breaks out in your office and everyone rushes from the building but the backup tapes are still sitting right next to the server. You've just lost your entire server as well as any backups you had on the tapes, now if you had an Off-Site Backup Solution that was running on a Hyper-V Host server you could easily create a new Virtual Machine and mount the VHD file from the last Hyperoo Backup and boot up your Virtual Server on a completely different physical server. You may for instance have a branch office that you could send the backups to over the internet securely using the Encryption and built-in rSync servers in Hyperoo. Now at the branch office you bring the virtual server online and all staff can then work from their while your head office is being rebuilt.

I have been using this software now for around 6 months with a number of my clients and I can honestly say it is the most simplest, fastest and most revolutionary backup software available for Hyper-V Servers. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with Hyperoo Backup Software I am just a huge fan of their program. I have never felt compelled to write about any other product before but Hyperoo has created a product that I can safely say is one of the best.
