How do you reserch illegal things like readar detctors to get info on what the law is saying and how they work and what is expected in the future. Is there a ceetain department at the police headquarters or state web site etc? What about how they are made? Are there web sites on that?

Depending on how much research you really want to do; for deep research from academic and legal sources, search through Ebsco or Worldcat (through a library service).  In and above a couple of good finds of academic/legal works they will have works cited at the bottom of the article that will open up a whole universe of information.

Less deep, try DMV websites, Department of Transportation, US department of highway safety, and maybe even go to some radar detector manufacturer company websites.

Try this for the area you are searching. This is a great library of codes and ordinances. I use it often for my consulting.
