Cheap Airline Tickets To Brazil | Discount Flights Sao Paulo Brazil

Updated on June 22, 2011

For North American travelers flying to Sao Paulo Brazil it will be necessary to search around for the cheapest airline ticket. Unlike Colombia where you can find great deals all year long, Brazil is a more expensive destination. However, here are some tips to help you find cheap flights to Brazil.

Tips to Find Cheap Airline Tickets to Brazil

  • Travel aggregators: Mobissimo, Low Fares and Trip Base often advertise cheap airline tickets to Brazil. These sites are becoming more popular as a tool to save time in the search for the lowest airfare. They are great tools that save the traveler from leaping back and forth from one website to the other to compare prices. In just one search, they compare all of the websites airfares.
  • Flexible travel dates. Some sites have a feature where you can indicate that your travel dates are flexible. You can then have the search engine look for the cheapest flights in a date range that can span a few days to several months. Travelocity is one site that has this feature and I find it a very useful tool.
  • Cheapest US Cities to Fly to Sao Paulo, Brazil
Miami, Florida is consistently one of the best cities for cheap flights to Brazil. Possibly due to the large percentage of Brazilian expatriates living in the Miami area. Several flights are non-stop from Miami to Sao Paulo – Guarulhos International Airport – GRU.
Although it is a longer flight, Los Angeles, California is another destination where you will find good deals on airfare.
  • Best days of the week to fly to Brazil. As with almost every destination, it is cheaper to fly to Sao Paulo mid-week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Weekends are generally the most expensive days to fly.

Airlines With Connecting Service

In addition to the non-stop flights listed to the left, you can book connecting flights to Sao Paulo from the USA on the following airlines:

  • Avianca
  • COPA Airlines
  • LAN Airlines
  • TACA
  • US Airways

Spirit Airlines, the king of cheap flights in the US and Latin American destinations does not fly to Brazil.

Airlines with Non-Stop Flights From the USA to Sao Paulo

Unless you are Brazilian you probably have not heard of the airline TAM Linhas Aereas. TAM is Brazil's largest airline and they are also a member of the Star Alliance, expanding their presence in the international flights market. TAM Airlines fly from North America, South America and Europe to Sao Paulo. They offer several non-stop flights from US destinations, including JFK in New York and Miami, Florida.

Note: The TAM website is lacking. They do not have a flight route/map page, so it is difficult to see if they fly direct to your city. In researching this article, I found Travelocity to be a better resource for locating TAM Airlines flights. If you go to TAM's website, all I can say is “Good Luck”.

Airlines with non-stop flights:

  • Air Canada
  • American Airlines
  • Continental Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • TAM Linhas Aereas
  • United Airlines

Non-Stop Flights From Canada

The only Canadian city with regularly scheduled non-stop flights to Sao Paulo is Toronto, Ontario.

You can fly direct from Toronto's Pearson International Airport - YYZ on Air Canada and TAM airlines.  Westjet airlines do not fly to Brazil.

The Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport - GRU

Brazilians refer to the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos airport as “Cumbica”. This is the name of the neighborhood where the airport stands.

The airport was opened in 1985. It is South America's 2nd busiest airport based on passenger volume. In 2010, the airport had over 26 million passengers. GRU has over 40 commercial airlines with regularly scheduled flights.
