How To Choose a Costa Rica Travel Package

Updated on July 11, 2013

What type of traveler are you?

Too many choices can be a bad thing.

One thing I've encountered over the years as a travel agent is how hard it can be for clients to make a decision when choosing a Costa Rica travel package.

Costa Rica is a country that is full of an exciting variety of options for it's visitors. The first step to choosing the right travel package is knowing what type of traveler you are.

  • Are you looking for a comfortable vacation? To be pampered and have all your needs taken care of? If so, you are looking for an all-inclusive Costa Rica travel package.
  • Are you a nature enthusiast? Maybe a bird watcher or someone that is mainly interested in Costa Rica because of it's bio-diversity and wildlife? If so, you are looking for an eco-tourism travel package.
  • Are you an adventurous person looking for a wild, adrenaline packed trip? Are you looking to rappel down waterfalls, zip line and do some world class white water rafting? If so, you are looking for an adventure tavel package.
  • Are you a backpacker on an endless adventure around the globe? Or maybe a surfer who is looking for nothing more then to surf every break you can while in Costa Rica? Are you concerned more with the experiences you will have rather then comfort? If so, then you are looking for an independent travel package.
  • Will you be traveling to Costa Rica with your family? Are you looking for a trip that is perfect for both the adults and the kids? If so, then you are looking for a family travel package.

Costa Rica has something for everyone. Knowing who you are and what you are looking for is important information for your travel agent. This will guarantee that you will have an unforgettable trip!

All Inclusive Costa Rica Travel Package

An all inclusive travel package will guarantee that every detail of your trip will be taken care of for you. Nothing will be required from you, except to show up and have a great time!

There are a variety of all inclusive resorts in Costa Rica. Most of them are located on one of the beautiful north Pacific beaches in the province of Guanacaste. This doesn't mean that you can not experience other parts of Costa Rica, it just means that your beach resort will be your home base for your stay.

The resorts in Costa Rica will rival any type of vacation resort you have been to anywhere else in the world. Delicious food, casinos, pools (yes, with swim up bars), spas and even golf courses. All inclusive packages include all food and beverages (alcoholic included), resort activities, transportation to and from the airport to your resort (Liberia airport is a short 30-40 minutes away from most of these resorts) as well as taxes and gratuities.

Along with your all inclusive package, you will be able to book tours or excursions to any other areas in Costa Rica. Zip-lining, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, volcanoes or waterfalls. Whatever you want to do in Costa Rica, you can do! Your resort will set up handle everything for you, setting up transportation with a local (English speaking guide) who will pick you up from your resort and escort you on the adventure of a lifetime.

Eco -Toursim Costa Rica Travel Package

Costa Rica covers only 0.1% of the world's landmass yet it contains 6% of all plant and animal species. This is what makes Costa Rica a coveted destination for nature lovers, bird watchers and eco-enthusiasts.

There are a variety of travel packages and guided tours set up exclusively for birders. An expert birding guide will lead you on bird tours and nature hikes (as well as other tours). Typically, you will be a part of a small group of other birders and be given the chance to witness and photograph many of the over 850 species of birds that call Costa Rica home. If you are a bird enthusiast and are traveling with those who are not, there are also many birding packages that can accommodate both the birder and the other travelers in your group.

One of the most popular regions in Costa Rica for eco-travel is the Osa Peninsula. Partnering with sustainable rainforest lodges and flights on Nature Air, the world's first carbon neutral airline, these packages will not only ensure that you are steeped in the nature wonders of one of the most bio-diverse areas on planet Earth, but you can also feel good about your trip knowing you have travel in a 100% carbon neutral way.

Corcovado National Park in the Osa Peninsula is a park that protects an important habitat for rare wildlife and huge trees in old growth forests. It is remote, and Costa Rica works hard to preserve it as one of the last true wilderness areas in Central America. An exo-toursim tour including this park will be an outstanding experience for nature lovers.

Adventure Costa Rica Travel Package

Costa Rica's rugged terrain sets the perfect landscape for heart pumping adventures! Exploding volcanoes, white water rapids, waterfalls and zip lines that go rushing through the canopy - the possibilities are endless for adventure seekers of all levels.

You can find adrenaline packages with non-stop daily activities as well as packages that combine adventure along with relaxation.

Spend a few days rafting, rappelling and zip lining and then head to the beach for surfing, yoga and time relaxing on the beach.

Visit the Arenal volcano area to hike and explore the trails leading to the volcano, visit the La Fortuna Waterfall and the relax for a few days at one of the natural volcanic thermal water spas.

Almost all Costa Rica travel packages can be customized to fit the wishes, wants and needs of the traveler. If you are looking for something specific, ask your travel agent!

Independent Costa Rica Travel Package

Most backpackers and surfers need little assistance when it comes to planning a trip to Costa Rica. Having a laid back, go with the flow attitude works perfectly here!

If you are the type of traveler who doesn't like to have an itinerary then an Independent travel package will work best for you. Your travel agent can suggest hostels, camp sites and surf camps in the areas that you are intending to visit and advise you on alternatives just incase you show up and there is no available bed (or hammock).

If you are a group of free spirited travelers or surfers and you are visiting during rainy season, your travel agent can assist you in setting up a 4X4 car rental. River crossings and the best secret surf spots can't be reached without one!
