Anthony Qi was born in Buffalo, NY, and raised in Houston, where his family fostered a love of learning and exploration. Those early values shaped how he approached challenges and opportunities throughout his education and career. After high school, he earned a place in the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin, a highly competitive track that emphasized analytical rigor, collaboration, and adaptability, helping him prepare for the dynamic environments he would later pursue.
At UT Austin, Anthony majored in Finance and minored in Spanish, graduating in 2018 with a 3.5/4.0 major GPA. His studies refined his analytical skills and exposed him to demanding case studies and group work, while his Spanish minor encouraged a more global outlook. In 2015, he spent a semester at Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires, where he studied program management, lived in a Spanish-speaking environment, and strengthened both cultural fluency and academic depth.
Anthony began his career with internships at Goshawk Global Investments, Nine Ten Capital Management, and Intertek in Shanghai. These roles allowed him to see Finance applied in diverse settings and taught him how to adapt to international business contexts. He later joined Highside Global Management, a $250 million hedge fund, where he worked for nearly four years. There, he specialized in sourcing investment ideas, conducting sector research, and applying disciplined frameworks to industries like advertising, logistics, and technology.
At Highside, Anthony developed a reputation for disciplined judgment and evidence-based decision-making. He created statistical models that incorporated alternative data into earnings forecasts, improving predictive accuracy and risk control. After gaining this experience, he transitioned to product development, joining a startup as its first employee. He helped design tools for hedge funds and investigative journalists, building datasets, shaping features, and working directly with clients, combining technical problem-solving with strategic thinking.
Anthony Qi’s career reflects a balance of Finance, technology, and adaptability. He has worked on tools that track regulatory actions, given input on UI/UX, and provided data-driven insights across sectors. Fluent in Spanish and conversational in Chinese, he works comfortably across cultures. Skilled with Bloomberg and Capital IQ, and capable in Python and TypeScript, he leverages technical knowledge to improve workflows. Outside of work, he invests actively, plays tennis, climbs, and explores strategy-based games, keeping his curiosity sharp and his problem-solving skills in constant practice.
