Bo Nicholson’s story is deeply intertwined with Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was raised with his two younger brothers, William and Henry. Throughout his life, Raleigh has remained the foundation of his personal and professional journey.
After high school, Bo moved to Athens, Georgia, to pursue a degree at the University of Georgia. Graduating from the Terry College of Business in 2010, his college years were shaped by academics and his involvement in music. He joined the band Mama’s Love, a rock group that toured extensively across the Southeastern U.S. and recorded original music at Southern Ground in Atlanta. The experience of working with the renowned producer John Keane taught him crucial lessons about teamwork, discipline, and the power of collaboration—lessons that continue to influence his financial career.
Although Bo shifted away from music as a full-time pursuit, his passion for it remains strong. He plays in Steamroom Etiquette, a local cover band in Raleigh, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music remains an essential source of personal fulfillment and creative balance for him outside his professional work.
Bo began his career in financial services in 2012, joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s rigorous Practice Management Development program and launched his practice through traditional methods, such as cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early efforts laid the foundation for his relationship-driven approach to financial advising, where proactive service and building lasting connections with clients are his priorities.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, joining Financial Resource Management (FRM) alongside Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper. He was drawn to FRM’s client-first philosophy and long-term relationship-building approach. Since joining, he has played a key role in growing the firm and expanding its reach. FRM now serves high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina and has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, a recognition of top performance and exceptional client service.
In addition to his financial advising work, Bo co-hosts a personal finance radio show that airs weekly across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show provides practical financial advice on various topics, helping listeners make informed financial decisions.
Bo’s financial planning philosophy emphasizes trust, clarity, and a long-term outlook. He helps clients simplify complex financial decisions, reduce tax burdens, and plan for their futures. Whether preparing for retirement, managing family wealth, or transitioning a business, he ensures that each financial plan is tailored to his client's needs.
Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018, and together they have two children: Grove, born in 2021, and Bill, born in 2023. They also share their home with a yellow lab named Parker. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and exploring the North Carolina coast. Music remains a constant in his life, and he continues to perform and attend live shows whenever possible.
As Bo looks forward, he remains committed to building lasting relationships and helping his clients navigate the complexities of financial planning with integrity and care.
