Brian C. Moss is the Principal and Head of Acquisitions & Capital Markets at Coventry Real Estate Advisors, a private equity firm that manages a $3 billion portfolio focused on U.S. retail and mixed-use real estate. Since joining Coventry in 2002, Brian has played an integral role in shaping the firm’s strategic direction, guiding investments in portfolio acquisitions, ground-up developments, and the redevelopment of existing properties. With over 20 years of experience in real estate investment and capital markets, he has proven an invaluable asset to the firm’s growth and success.
At Coventry, Brian oversees an impressive portfolio of 20 million square feet of retail properties across 43 states. His responsibilities include managing acquisitions, securing funding, and structuring joint ventures and limited partner (LP) relationships. Brian's deep expertise in real estate markets has allowed him to identify opportunities that align with the firm’s objectives and consistently generate returns for investors. His leadership in these areas has positioned Coventry as a major player in the industry.
One of Brian’s key contributions to the firm has been his role in adapting Coventry’s investment strategy in response to the changes brought about by the pandemic. He led efforts to create new investment platforms, focusing on net lease and unanchored strip malls, which cater to demographic trends and the wealth transfer expected over the next decade. These initiatives have helped expand Coventry’s Assets Under Management (AUM), strengthening the firm’s position in the competitive market.
In addition to his work in acquisitions and capital markets, Brian has significantly impacted asset management. He has been involved in several high-profile transactions, including recapitalizing $380 million in legacy investments. His efforts in structuring joint ventures, securing capital, and updating business plans have been essential in driving the performance of these investments. Notable projects under his leadership include a $100 million mixed-use redevelopment in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a $250 million ground-up development in Kirkland, Washington.
Before joining Coventry, Brian Moss of New York began his career in investment banking at Lehman Brothers. There, he worked on the Real Estate Partners Fund I, which marked Lehman’s first major foray into real estate private equity. This experience gave him a solid foundation in institutional real estate investment and private equity, shaping his career focus on capital markets and investment strategy.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Northwestern University, where he was also a standout athlete. As a Men’s Varsity Tennis Team member, he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was ranked among the top junior tennis players in Canada and the U.S. His achievements earned him a partial scholarship to Northwestern, where he continued excelling in academics and athletics.
Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Brian moved to Seattle, Washington, with his family before high school. He attended Lakeside High School, where he played a key role in the school’s tennis team, helping the team win a state championship. Outside of his professional work, Brian is dedicated to community service. He coaches youth soccer, volunteers with organizations like the Terry Fox Foundation, and participates in Ice Hockey in Harlem.
Brian resides in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and three daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, skiing, and supporting his favorite Winnipeg Jets hockey team. Brian’s commitment to excellence in his professional and personal life continues to positively impact those around him.
