It is bizarre to think that I can fit my life and who I am into this tiny box but as a writer of optimism, I know it can be done. My name is Calico Stark; I am a veteran of life. There are many events that have shaped who I am today and why I write what I do. I grew up as an unnoticed mouse. My fourth grade teacher commented on a story I had written, she said it was "awesome!” That word changed my world and so it became the catalyst for the faith to believe my words could change the world around me. When I was sixteen I heard the Lords voice in my heart as I contemplated writing for a magazine with scandalous proportions. His words whispered to me, "One day you will write professionally but first you will write for me." I declined the opportunity to write for carnal fame. I didn't fully understand the Lord's words to me then but as the years came and went, I found myself writing encouragement to those around me. Sharing the scriptural remedies in prose for every personal plight became my past time. I, indeed, was writing for Him. In the past ten years I have realized that my life and its happenings are not just for my own refection and growth. I have weathered the storm of widowhood with three small children under the age of six. Raising my special needs children in the midst of adversity and on a shoe string makes a gal strong. Homeschooling has become our venue of educational growth to avoid neglect and abuse at the hands of the local school district. We have battled reckless prejudice toward the quandary of Autism which is a welcomed friend to my son. (I will explain this in detail in a future Hub).
There are new chapters of my life that will motivate and inspire new Hubs, the list is endless! There will be articles on travel, recipes that are quick and easy, relationship advice between men and women and the adventures of teenage Autism to name just a few. I look forward to knowing all of my readers and fellow authors. I make it point to read your stuff if you are reading mine.
