I was born into a humble middle class family one cold wintry night on January 7,1984 in a far corner of north eastern states of India called Manipur,also known as 'Land of jewel' as the first prime minister of India ,Jawaharlal Nehru christened it.I belong to a Naga community who are known for their honesty and straight forwardness.When the British left India in 1947,our forefathers met many British officers and sent memorandum after memorandum requesting the British to leave us as they found us.our forefather also met Mahatma Gandhi,the father of Indian Nation at Bhangi colony,Delhi on July 19,1947 and made our stand very clear that we don't want to be part of India as we were never conquered by anyone before the advent of the British,Mahatma Gandhi replied was ". we don't want to live under the British rule,we have fought and lots of blood has been shed,now the British are leaving,so if the Naga did'nt did not want to be a part of India,you have every right to declared Independent,i don't believe in force marriage and force union." with that assurance,the Naga declared independence day on 14 August ,1947,one day ahead of India,a cable was sent to United Nation and the UN was kind enough to sent a reciept of acknowledgement.All the embassies of foreign country in New Delhi were promply informed but as soon as Mahatma Gandhi died in the hand of a Hindu fanatic,Nathuram Godse on 30 January 1948,the Indian government under the leadership of P.M Jawaharlal Nehru sent in thousands of troops and occupied our land through sheer brutal force.I grew up in the midst of war where people were killed,tortured,raped by the Indian army on daily basis under the Draconian Act called the Armed Forced Special power ACT passed by the Indian parliament in 1958.It was first implemented in our land on september 11,1958.Under this act ,an Indian army can shoot,killed,maimed on mere suspicion with full immunity and impunity.Naga have a rich tradition,cultures and unique history.our ways of administation and government are often compared with the ancient Greek city states by many historian.Naga villages are divided into different entities and every village is a sovereign by itself ruled by a chief.Inter-village war was a common occurence.we,the Nagas are also known as head hunter,whenever there is a war with another village,all the young man carry a very big and unique sword,which we called (dao) and chopped of the enemy's head and hang it in a pole in front of our house as a sign of courage and accomplishment of the individual.The one who hang the largest number of enemy's head is considered as a man to be reckoned.Everybody look up to him and every parents who have a daughter consider that man as the most potential candidate.we,the Naga ave up head hunting practice when a British christian missionary came to india and visited our land in 1819.He eventually introduced a western education and convert our tribes to christianity in masses.By 1943,more than 90 percent of our tribes were converted.
