My husband I have been married for 27 memorable years. I’ve been a stay at home mother for 23 of them. My family and our relationships with each other are very important to me. I enjoy doing things with them that keep us close to each other. I absolutely love the fact that we can be there to help and lift each other up when we struggle with the challenges of life.
My greatest passions have always been centered on creating things, but I rarely keep anything I make because I enjoy giving my creations away to help others. If there is anything I have learned from a lifetime of experiences, it is this— life is so much sweeter when we reach out to help others—in serving others, we are blessed, our family is strengthened, and those around us are uplifted.
My faith is also very important to me. At age 27, I was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since that time, I have found out that I have another great passion—The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a tremendous gift in my life—and I treasure it. I set aside a certain amount of time each day to prayerfully study the scriptures in faith. I do this because I love God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. I know that the scripture testify of them and teach us what they would have us know and do. The scriptures bring me joy, they lift me, they strengthen me, and they motivate me to be good and to do good. They help build my faith and help me draw near to our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son. As I study and apply what I am learning into my life, I have seen how the Lord blesses me with power to withstand temptation. As I obey the commandments, seek the Lord's will in my life, nourish my faith and repent, I grow stronger as a person.
When we experience the blessings that come from living the gospel, we naturally want to share those blessings with others. I have found that sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others makes me happy.
I feel grateful for the last two presidential campaigns, because with Mitt Romney running—it has allowed people to check out my faith a little bit more. To help with this curiosity, my articles will center on explaining—who Mormons are.
To give you a taste of what you may expect in my upcoming articles, here is a little tidbit of information—
Mormon’s are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The name “Mormon” is a nickname we have been given by people, who are not of our faith, because of our belief in the Book of Mormon. We are also called, “latter-day Saints” or “LDS.”
We tell those who are not of our faith that—we belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—for the reason that the nickname “Mormon” has a tendency to confuse others about our beliefs. It takes away from the understanding that we belong to the Church that bears the Savior’s full name, and that we use the scriptures in the Book of Mormon because it helps us teach the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon received its name because of a man named “Mormon.” He was the prophet who abridged most of the ancient scriptures that were recorded by other prophets who had lived in the Americas between 600 B.C.-400 A.D. The Book of Mormon is organized or compiled in the way that we have it, because of his work. For the reason that the abridgment had been done by “Mormon” is why the “Book of Mormon” was given His name.
I do not speak for the church as a whole, but as a member. I hope that my articles will be helpful and inspirational to those who would like to know more about us and our beliefs.
