Doug Farley is the Director of The Erie Canal Discovery Center, an interpretive center for Erie Canal history, operated by Niagara County History Center in Lockport NY. Prior to beginning this position in 2005, Mr. Farley owned and operated his own retail business for over 35 years.
As director, Mr. Farley helped with planning and implementation for this new state-of-the-art facility that provided an adaptive reuse for a 19th century architectural treasure that was at risk. This new award winning facility opened in June 2005 and Mr. Farley is responsible for its management, operation and marketing. His work includes research on Erie Canal history and he publishes weekly articles for the Lockport Union Sun & Journal, as well as contributing to other publications such as Canal Times and WNY Heritage magazine.

The Seven Sutherland Sisters were world famous for their long hair and their singing abilities. They were featured at the birth of Broadway and later with Barnum & Bailey. Their father started a business to sell Seven Sutherland Sisters' hair products including tonic and "colorator."
