Dr. Edward McInnis, Lt. (N), MD, CCFP, is an experienced physician specializing in family and emergency medicine. With 16 years as a family physician and 10 years in emergency and trauma care, he has developed a comprehensive medical practice grounded in patient care, experience, and leadership. Alongside his medical career, he is a full-time father of four, a volunteer, an athlete, and a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Navy reservist.
Born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Dr. McInnis was the oldest of four children. His early life was filled with sports, and he excelled in many, including hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. He played Junior A hockey and was even evaluated by the Boston Red Sox as a potential pitching prospect. His involvement in competitive sports shaped his discipline, teamwork, and commitment, values that he carried into adulthood. In addition to his athleticism, he took up weightlifting as part of his ongoing physical regimen, which has remained a part of his life.
Dr. McInnis’s strong work ethic was evident from a young age. At just 10 years old, he took a paper route, learning the importance of responsibility and time management. At 13, he began his first full-time job at McDonald's, where he developed valuable customer service and collaboration skills. These early experiences laid the foundation for his future achievements, teaching him perseverance and the importance of dedication.
Dr. McInnis’s academic journey is extensive. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1992 from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After completing his BBA, he took a brief break from academics to travel across the United States, gaining life experiences that would inform his future decisions. In 1997, he earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics from Dalhousie University.
He continued his education at Dalhousie Medical School, receiving his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2004. During his medical training, Dr. McInnis focused on emergency and family medicine, completing his postgraduate studies and internship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. In addition to his MD, he obtained an Epidemiology Certification from Dalhousie University in 2002.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. McInnis is a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces. As a Navy reservist, he applies his medical expertise in various military contexts, contributing to his personal growth and the well-being of fellow servicemen and women.
