Joined 6 years ago from Illinois
I’m a girl from a small town in Illinois. My parents moved our family from Chicago. My parents were employed by Oscar Meyers. My mother packed Oscar Meyer hotdogs and my father was a VIP of Oscar Meyer. Yes, my family had money. They gave us the finest things. I was in beauty pageants, modeling school and was crowned princess.
Today, I am a 19 year veteran Engineer on a full time Fire Department in Illinois. When I got divorced, I moved back home with my two sons. My dad was here but my mom passed away while I was on vacation. I started attending college and became interested in Emergency Medical Technician. When I applied for the fire department, I was scared and excited at the same time. All I wanted was to take care of my two sons and give them the best life.
My initial goal was just to work here for a few years to save some money. I wasn’t looking at this career as a lifelong career. The few years turned into 19 years. As a female firefighter, I had to overcome so many obstacles, physical issues and working in an all male environment. Luckily, there were a few other female fire fighters on this department that helped me grow. I have given my sons home, cars, and paid for college.
So after 19 years, I am ready to retire in a few years. This career has really changed my life, my personal life and my goals. Last year, I have obtained my Associates in Fire Science Management. This career can be a blessing, can educate you and make you love helping people in any emergency situation.
My parents wanted me to marry rich and be in beauty pageants but God had other plans for me. If my family was still alive, I would not be a fire fighter. I AM A FIRE FIGHTER.
