I was born a poor white trash, and for the last 67 years, have pretty much managed to stay that way.
In my youth, I wanted to be a right-handed Whitey Ford, and I have seen almost every New York Giants football game played since circa 1962.
I was raised on honky-tonk music and made the natural progression from Patsy Cline to Bobby Darin, American Bandstand, the Beatles, and finally, to Lamb of God. (see my article, Powerwolf - My New Favorite Band on Hubpages.)
I played percussion in the high school band. Even bought a small drum set but, soon learned I was not very good at it. Finally, at the age of 51, I bought a bass guitar. I am still not much of a musician but, for an hour every day at my house, I am the star of a rock show.
I own, and have read, a thousand volume library of mostly non-fiction. Topics include: WWII, the war in Vietnam, baseball, ancient world history (up to the Crusades), modern world history (since the Crusades), misc. US and world military history, Russia (see my article Books I Have Known - Russia on Hubpages), England, the American West of the 1800's, Africa, UFO's (see my pending article Books I Have Known - The Extraterrestrial Species Almanac on Hubpages), politics and economics ...
I am a proponent of CRE (circumambient recipricol exchange) the abolition of capitalism and use of money as our means of trade and measure of value.
I came upon the theory honestly.
Early in my freshman year of high school, we leased a family farm. I spent the next four years shoveling cow manure and throwing hay bales to feed a capitalist society so ungrateful there was no room for me at college. We did not have that kind of money.
It was all I could do to borrow the munificent sum of $600 to attend a four-month radio broadcast course where we learned we would be changing stations about every six months while earning minimum wage playing someone elses idea of music.
Put off, I eventually went to work in a furniture factory. While helping an uncle haul an air compressor out of a milkhouse, I broke my tailbone and dislodged the last three vertibrete in my back. I haven't taken a pain free step since. I became a hippy, quit the mill and went to jail where I injured my back again while trying to pick up a log..
Fortunately, I'm not at all bitter.
It was eight years before I put the third-class broadcast license I had earned, but no longer needed, to use as a DJ/board operator/engineer/producer for a classical music public radio station.
I was there six years, and spent four more as the janitor for another non-profit.
I always wanted to write and finally got the opportunity as the sportswriter for a local weekly newspaper.
For 15 years it was great fun, but draining. But 2004, I had become depressed, lost my job and was diagnosed with severe social anxiety. I lived on disability until SS retired me in 2020.
In 2015, while recovering from another back injury that put me in bed for three years, I self-published The Sins of Angels - A Plebian inquiry, available on Amazon. The main premise suggests that an early human ancestor, perhaps 500,000 years ago, left the planet, probably due to an environmental disaster. They returned some 350,000 years later to become Greek gods and Biblical angels.
In the last few years, I have attempted to supplement my meager income by establishing an internet writing career but, instead, have ended up fighting with Vocational Rehabilitation over a broken contract, possession of a computer and internet access.
Hope you are having a better day.
