I am a former country child, turn city girl wanting a simpler way of life now a country mom. I am a dedicated wife and proud mother of five, two boys and three girls (usually) lovely children. Still currently at home three girls and one boy. (Side note…. Did you know can’t just put them in college or the military they have to be a certain age or done with high school? go figure… anyway.) Because my husband and I had more love to give and needed to feed more mouths we also have a dog who is currently 95lbs, and iguana who loves having fresh produce year round (being that he is a vegetarian) and a slew of fishes, inside and out. We have automotive repair business we started after my husband was hit with a forklift due to faulty breaks. I worked as an insurance broker specialist until change was needed. We homeschool our two youngest girls, run all over town for our resident doctor to be and her trumpet hobby, and are currently assisting our youngest son in starting his own business (he’s eleven…so proud!).
As a child I spent many days running around playing and feeding chickens, eating tomatoes right out of the garden, grapes off the vines blackberries off bushes, picking plums, apple and pears right out of the trees. I loved it the original fruit snacks!! I always wanted my children to experience a simpler way of life but it’s so hard to do in today’s world. Imagine my surprise when something devastating like losing your job and home was actually a Blessing in our lives (although it didn’t seem that way at first). We relocated to the country just outside of the city limits with more space then we could have every asked for.
My husband being a city boy with country boy tendencies loved it. We have always had some sort of garden but nothing like this. Guys at one point he turned our furnace room, living room and even portions of the dining room into a greenhouse with homemade hot boxes. You should have seen him, he was in heaven; cultivating and plowing the fields. He was smelling dirt, taking pictures of worms (or as he likes to call them his “workers”) I almost thought he needed to use his mental health benefits. I actual suggested it a couple of times. But he was so at peace in this leg of our journey called life.
Because of these changes running a business full-time, homeschooling and country living, I re-kindled a long forgot love…canning. We had already made lifestyle changes regarding our food, reducing chemicals ingested or applied to us and the children. I researched and create many everyday products (lots of trial and error was involved) home remedies, simple homemade meals and dessert. Within my blog I will share these tips and things that have worked and do work for my family. I will share recipes for creating home cooked meals and desserts with little to no processed foods. Creative homeschool or regular school project ideas, how to make the most of your harvest, canning tips, the crockpot is your friend (a guide for busy moms), as well as non-corporal discipline avenues (trust with a house full of children discipline is needed …also no sense in you being worn out and tired from giving physical discipline) and much more. I will also include links to those who have inspired me along this journey and different merchant’s products that I love. Many of which are very economical without sacrificing quality for quantity. As always I am open for new adventures and challenges, so please feel free to suggest topics I may not have included that you want more information on. I am not an expert nor do I claim to be. I just know what works for our family and maybe yours can benefit. If I don’t know the answer I will do my best to research and give you options and solutions for your questions.
