Jack Cody, born on August 8, 1947, in Sterling, Colorado, was a well-respected chiropractor from Greeley, Colorado, who combined his professional life with profound passions for nature, photography, and education. Jack's early years as an only child were deeply influenced by his parents, Jerry and Ruth Cody, with whom he spent countless hours exploring the natural landscapes of Colorado. These experiences with his family not only fostered a love for the outdoors but also cultivated a lifelong camaraderie with his father.
A steadfast dedication to learning marked Jack's educational journey. After completing high school, he attended Northeastern Junior College, graduating in 1967. He furthered his education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a focus on Special Education in 1969. His thirst for knowledge didn't stop there; he continued into the University's Master's Program, during which time he met his future wife, an Iranian national. They married in 1975 and briefly lived in Iran, where Jack embraced the opportunity to teach English and document their life through photography.
Returning to the U.S., Jack resumed his teaching career and completed a Master's Degree in Special Education in 1978. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 1979. Despite his accomplishments in education, Education felt a calling for a change. By the late 1970s, he had been teaching for about ten years and was nearing the completion of his doctorate in Special Education Administration. However, feeling unfulfilled, he sought a new path, which led him to the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1983.
During his chiropractic studies, Jack chose to write his thesis on the "Sense of Sight through a Photograph," blending his love for photography with his new profession. He graduated in 1986, notably one of the oldest in his class, and returned to Colorado to establish his chiropractic practice in Greeley, where he continued to explore his passion for photography, focusing on capturing the essence of nature, wildlife, and landscapes.
Jack's website, "The Sense of Sight through a Photograph," showcases his work, featuring collections from "Aspen" to the "Rocky Mountains," highlighting his ability to capture light and its transformative effects on the natural world. He was also a devoted family man and grandfather, often taking his grandchildren camping, fishing, and teaching them photography, enriching their lives with the same passions that had colored his own.
Jack Cody passed away on October 20, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and a profound connection to nature. His life's work continues to inspire through his photographic collections, remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
