Film matters for the same reason all art matters – because it embodies and conveys the values and beliefs of the culture within which and for which it is made. Popular art forms, such as film, are of special importance because they speak to the most central of those values and beliefs.
Film is more than just a tool to pass time, it’s a way of communication! Movies may carry a subject matter that is not enjoyable but is necessary to communicate an idea, a new way of life. An example of such a film would be “12 years of slave” which allows us to learn from humanities mistakes.
Some movies allow us to escape the horror of everyday life. Movies like “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” take us to completely different worlds that make you question what values we hold and allow us to see the stories of hero’s villains.
Together, let us take a journey into the world of film!
