Jennifer Saxton-Sweet (JSaxton)

I am working toward a PhD in Psychology. My purpose for choosing the psychology field is based on my personal experience in life. I spent my entire life, starting at the age of 12, being misdiagnosed with a mental illness. I was prescribed so many different medications as a treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar I, and depression: none of which helped. At the age of 35, a doctor found a lump on my throat that had been there my entire life. Not one doctor had ever taken the time to examine it further. I ended up having half of my thyroid removed and placed on a hormone suppliment. This changed my life forever and I, for the first time in my life, feel like a "normal" person. I decided I wanted to go back to college with my focus on the thyroid and the often made misdiagnosis of a mental illness. I hope that I can help others who may be experiencing the same.
