Juan Monteverde is a New York City-based lawyer known for his extensive work in shareholder rights. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for challenging corporate transactions such as mergers and buyouts, helping to recover millions of dollars for shareholders. He also became a leading figure advocating for proxy compensation reforms in the post-Dodd-Frank era, ensuring executives fully disclosed their compensation packages. Monteverde's guiding principle is that "CEOs and executives are not above the law."
As the founding partner of Monteverde & Associates PC, located in the Empire State Building, Juan leads a talented team of attorneys who share his commitment to protecting shareholders from corporate fraud and misconduct. The firm primarily represents shareholders who have suffered financial losses due to fraudulent practices or unfair mergers. The firm can take on cases at every level, from trial courts to the U.S. Supreme Court. His motto, “No one is above the law,” reflects his dedication to holding corporations accountable for their actions.
Before founding his firm, Juan Monteverde was a partner and chair of the Mergers and Acquisition Litigation Department at Faruqi & Faruqi LLP from 2010 to 2016. During his tenure, he was key in securing significant victories for shareholders in complex litigation. Earlier, he worked as an associate at Levi & Korsinsky, where he represented victims of securities fraud. He also practiced at Smith Mazure Director Wilkins Young & Yagerman, handling civil rights and product liability cases. His summer associate role at Diaz Reus LLP further strengthened his skills in handling high-stakes commercial and international cases.
Juan earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2005, graduating with distinction. He was actively involved in student leadership, serving as a staff editor for the Law Review and president of Plead, the law school’s newspaper. Before law school, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Finance from California State University, Northridge.
Throughout his career, Juan has published articles and spoken at several legal conferences, including those organized by the American Bar Association and PLI. He has made significant contributions to the field of executive compensation law.
