Every year I buy a bunch of asparagus as a token to the local economy here in the Central Valley of California. To me this is an event because I actually purchase so few fruits and vegetables, but I make an exception for this local favorite.

Carrots seem to materialize out of thin air, (or actually soil), with what seems like a bit of alchemy. How does the seed in the ground, become something we eat.
